Rarely does chef Masa Takayama of Manhattan sushi shrine Masa allow cameras into his restaurant. But Eater's Kat Odell scored a seat at his bar to taste through America's best omakase. Like Madonna, chef Masa Takayama is a mononmyous character known by fans simply as Masa, also the name of his eponymous restaurant in New York's Time Warner Center. And after three decades of cutting fish and helping to shape (and refine) America's sushi culture, it's a moniker well-deserved. At Masa, the show is sushi, and it's one that has received countless accolades for Chef's near-perfect, and extremely pricey fish. Actually, Masa is the single most expensive restaurant in the country and one that replicates, in many ways, a classic Japanese omakase experience. While dishes many not always be entirely traditional, the service, energy and overall thought behind the meal is totally Japanese. On very few occasions does chef Masa allow cameras into his restaurant and, in fact, he's notorious for his no photography policy. Regardless, Eater's Kat Odell scored a prime seat to experience the best sushi in this country. 7 Sushi Rules You're Probably Breaking After Ten Years of Masa, a Sushi Legend Surveys His Kingdom 'I'm not a snob, ' says renowned Japanese chef Masayoshi Takayama of his decision to never eat sushi in New York City, unless it comes from his own kitchens. Holy fking god, its only 700 dollars. I dont mind spending that much to treat myself as for my bd present after a year of hard work and overtime. People can spend money on alcohol, hookers and other dip shiet activities but complaining about expensive wines and dinners man. Now if you cant afford anything at the first place, then it should be your goals to work toward those end of the food chains to enjoy some luxurious at least for yourself enjoyments. I used to think 30 dollars all you can eat sushi expensive. u get my pref. Well if u still cant understand my pref, :) got nothing else left to say

Why are all yall ripping on the host? The words she used to describe the sushi are pretty much spot on. I. e toro is tuna belly, a really fatty part of the fish, so rich and creamy are going to be the most obvious adjectives. Or is everyone required to be a walking thesaurus these days? Also, talking confidently on camera is actually a lot more difficult than it looks. I say she did a decent job and the chef was a good sport too.

Not to pile on to the poor host, who seems very nice, but it doesn't seem like she knows much about sushi. I'd rather have someone who knows about sushi telling me about why this guy's sushi is so good that a meal in his restaurant costs hundreds of dollars, whereas I can stop by my local Japanese grocery shop and get sushi for 7 bucks. I mean, I'm sure there's a huge difference, but this host did not tell me what it is.

It's obvious that she's not super invested or perhaps is just intimated by/unfamiliar with the world of high-end sushi? I want to know more about the chef and his work. Not about how she THINKS there is a hint of complexity. Also, Am I gonna die? Really? Such poor taste.

I bet even if it was clone of masa sitting there reviewing his own food these YouTube commenters would be like HE DOESNT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT GIVE US SOMEONE WHO ISNT LIMITED WITH THEIR REACTIONS I COULD DO A BETTER JOB IM UNSUBSCRIBING NOTICE ME PLEASE

I'm not so understand about chef world, i know fugu fish is dangerous thing but when she says i'm not gonna die right? that words sounds not funny. WHY? Because I think it's inappropriate to say before a 3 star michelin chef.

She is not a good food reviewer - lacks knowledge and looks awkward sitting in front of the chef. Also double this type of food really suits her. Mark Wiens should have been given the opportunity to cover this video.

This guy is definitely not the Madonna of the sushi world - he is not a pretencious, arrogant douche who covers up his mediocre talent behind invented scandals and fashion shows, but he is a real craftsman and artist.

she look like she work for buzzfeed, because of the way she express her taste so complex, so rich and creamy and smooth what a idiotic way to express it would have being more classy if she just say oh it good
