Way before The Sims and Sim City 2000, there was SimAnt by Will Wright and Maxis. Ever wanted to control your ant farm, instead of just watching it? Now you can, in this review of: Sim Ant for Mac The goal of these Lazy Game Reviews videos is to see how quick I can crank out a review after a long day at work, with short reviews based on a game or theme of games (this one is a single game, Sim Ant for Apple Macintosh, played on an LC575

God what a memory unlocked!
My parents got me the Maxis collection when I was almost too young to understand how to play these games.
I remember flying around on SimCopter but never actually passing the first stage.
Streets of Sim City crashed so much but those missiles and rockets and hovercar were so cool.
SimSafari was amazing but I remember it being super short like 4 quests only.
SimTower I was afraid of for some reason I don't remember why.
SimLife and SimEarth we're completely lost on me, as a kid I thought they just didn't work

A lot of people think Lemmings is the original Pikmin, no way, this game is it. You control a single ant who can summon groups of other ants to follow you, you can use them to attack stronger enemies as a group or make them pick up a large food cache you found and bring it back to the nest, there are different types of ants who are good at different tasks, it's so similar that Pikmin now seems really unoriginal to me.

Neat lil' exploit when trying to play the -Normal- game mode was that if you dug in your nest to the very bottom layer or so of dirt there was always a 'hole' down there that would somehow magically take you to the same hole in the opposing -Team's- nest. You could dig into the enemy nest, Take out their queen in one go and voila, Tile done.

I'm realizing I've probably never played this with sound. I played it a lot as a kid, but none of these sound effects are familiar. :- I think it was because I played it on my dad's office computer, and the speakers were often playing the radio. I wanna play it again!

This game really needs a remake. I had the DOS PC version and played it on a 286. The music did not sound good on an internal speaker, but I didn't care. I carried that manual with me everywhere, too. I was always jealous of the Mac versions of the Maxis games.

Ohhhh! I was wondering why the video quality was so weird, it's a ten year old video. Damn I guess I never really considered how long you've been doing this. Really glad you've been around for so long LGR, thank you.

I played this a lot as a young kid. I could never figure out how to do anything. I think I somehow produced a queen once, but I didn't know how I did it. I think I could barely read at the time I was playing this.

I was an IBM PC user back then, so I played -SimAnt- on Ye Olde IBM clone. One favorite move was to -take over a spider- and attack the red ant nest. (It wasn't too long before the spider succumbed to ant venom)

I had this game growing up. Only played it a couple of times though because the graphic death descriptions scared me as a little kid.
I may need to go back and revisit it.

Spiders DO NOT eat ants, in fact it's the reverse. The number one predator of spiders is the ant. In fact, the bigger the spider, the more terrified they are of ants and run away
