There is a big difference between consuming coffee or just straight up caffeine.
Recently I switched my caffeine consumption from primarily coffee and energy drinks to primarily caffeine pills, and many of my health problems have improved, but I have to watch my consumption more closely, because it is easier to overdose with pills than with liquid coffee.
However, since I would brew strong coffee and then add a few scoops of instant coffee to that, my tolerance is already quite high.
I attribute my improved health to the lower amounts of additives I am now getting from coffee and energy drinks, and not as much to the absence of coffee itself, since I think coffee in and of itself is actually quite the healthy superfood.
The increase in mental illness with high consumption of caffeine is easily explained as a correlated effect of already being prone to addiction or self-medication, as well as the hightened sense of awareness that caffeine induces, which does not necessarily cause mental health problems, but can exacerbate such problems, by forcing them into the foreground of your mind, where you are compelled to deal with them, which you may not actually be ready for. I very much see this as a similar effect to that of meditation or mindfulness.
To this I would say, never shoot the messenger. If a hightened sense of awareness bring things to the forefront that you are not ready to deal with, then either seek counselling to help you deal with the issues now, or stop ingesting substances that raise your sense of awareness to a degress that you are unable to cope with.

I also would like to note that after some research of my own along with personal experience have found that people with adhd who consume caffeine can tend to have a higher tolerance however unlike most people caffeine will actual make them more sluggish and even tired upon testing my theory I found that if I drank one energy drink in the morning by the time I was finished with it I'd be slightly tired but when I drank caffeine near the end of the day with my dinner it made me quite tired and I fell asleep nearly instantly also to note i have a pretty consistent schedule so not like my activities though out the day would effect any of it very much

My parents didn't allow me to consume coffee, except maybe a sip or two at a time and not every day, until I was 13. O. My 13th birthday, I drank a pot of the stuff--black, no sugar, cuz my daddy taught me right! A couple of times a year I have to take a 3-day hiatus from coffee because the buildup in my system triggers the shaky hands and so on, though as long as I recognize the symptoms and respond accordingly I do fine. It took a while to realize that when someone says, I'd better not or I'll regret this later! it's because they're paying attention to their own signals. Great info as always!

Caffeine is only good for me on very low dosses I only use it for race day for running or when im super tired. I only use it like once every 2 weeks and anything above 40mg is to much. The main issue I had from caffeine was anxiety im starting to think a lot of my adhd symptoms were just caffeine abuse because the moment i quit using it everday my chronic anxiety vanished Im not saying adhd does not exist, but I think the stress and overthinking that people with adhd experience can be mainly related to caffeine overuse.

Ok so I have a question, and I hope someone here can tell me if it happens to them too, when I drink caffeine I get a burst of joy or euphoria, and I feel so positive and I can do anything but the coming down effect is the complete opposite and I feel it even affects my thinking behavior in a way of negative thinking, physically after a couple of weeks or months my body tends to tense up, I'm a person who struggles with depression and anxiety, has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks YT community

Although I do enjoy coffee, I must admit that it doesn't always sit well with my stomach, especially when mixed with dairy. Nonetheless, I indulged in a cup today using a $5 gift card at Dutch Bros. While the taste was delightful, I may have overdone it a bit as my stomach is upset and I feel jittery from the caffeine. Perhaps it's because I'm still pretty young and didn't even finish the cup. All in all, I would rate my experience a 5. 5 out of 10.

I cut caffeine out of my life for 3 months when my anxiety got worse. It was a pretty stressful time in my life. However, I noticed absolutely no difference in my anxiety without caffeine. I was just a bit more tired in the morning, that's it. Every time I'm anxious, people always tell me to cut out caffeine, but it's important to know the actual source of your anxiety. For me, the answer was just that my job was sucking the soul out of me.

I don't drink coffee on a regular basis, however when I wake up and I feel really tired, I wait for around 2 hours after waking up to drink a can of monster energy, which contains the equivalent of 4 to 6 cups of coffee worth of caffeine
I've been doing this for a long time and to this day, I see no side effect at all, the only downside I see is my colleagues making fun of me because I drink monster energy in the morning

Coffee/caffeine in general are not good (and has never been good to or) for me. For some reason when i even have a simple cups worth of the stuff, im sleepy my energy? depleted, my motives? Whats that! Honestly it just does the opposite of what its suspected to do normally. Then after wards im all depressed. Never drank an energy drink in my life because of it and sodas are null/void in my diet. The most i can intake is tea.

Learn how coffee works, pay attention and take break if you have never thinked how caffeine really affects on you.
Treat it as stimulant and drink it controlled like 1-3 cup/day. Dont drink after waking up, instead wait 90 minutes. Dont drink coffee past 2pm if you have to. Keep absolutely max coffee intake time on 4pm.
Remember to drink water.

Why does the video immediate talk about the effects on people who already have disorders? Wouldn't it make more sense to discuss the effects on a base state first and then discuss the rarer cases? That way there's a baseline, and there is less confusion over whether the effects are from the caffeine, the disorders, or interaction effects.

I definitely dont deny the negative effects of caffeine, esp if u have anxiety and other mental disorders already, but for me personally, I love a good Starbucks treat once or twice a week it literally makes me so happy for that entire day coz to me its more of a dessert than just a drink. And yeah, dont get addicted to it or whatever

Rather than drinking coffee, which have additives like mild toxins, you can take caffeine pills instead. In order to minimize tolerance, take it just once a day. And skip 2 or 3 days a week. Reposing can really add to tolerance build. But once a day makes it less so, by a lot. Better use 200 mg once, than to dose 100 mg twice.

I have anxiety but I also do manual labor. I can drink caffeine at work and be fine as long as I stay busy and even feel the benefits. If I drink caffeine anytime other than when Im at work it wires me too much and makes me feel like my heart if gonna burst out of my chest.

I want to need to make serious efforts to quit Diet Coke caffeine enhances my anxiety and then depression follows the physical symptoms of anxiety. Pls send me your positive words of hope and energy! Drinking one can on empty stomach sends me spiraling down

I drink coffee daily, but I only have two cups in the morning and that's it. Sometimes I get a little naughty and drink another cup or two after work because I decide I want to stay UP and have FUN, particularly on my friday's as I can sleep in next morning
reply

I drink only in morning, lots of it feeling good until the world seems kinda changed and yeah anxiety. I have schizophrenia i like both alcohol and caffeine, but alcohol twice a week and i over drink it almost to puke and thats probably my borderline
reply

Caffeine doesn't exactly effect me much, funnily enough. Sometimes it makes me tired and I think my autism helps do that. It also helps me to chill out, dealing with my anxiety. And I only stick to once a day, occasionally not having one entirely

I've recently discovered both a love of vanilla/french vanilla lattes and also that caffeine causes strong anxiety and even paranoia in me. For the sake of my struggling mental health, I'll be sticking with decaf from now on.
reply

I don't drink it at all. I drunk a cup of a strong black coffee once before I went to bed. I couldn't sleep my head was super-activated with over thinking I almost went mental. I'll never drink it again
reply

Im taking a break from caffeine because I think Im drinking too much and I also think its affecting my mental health since I have an anxiety issue and I feel like coffee amplifies it
reply

I dropped caffeine and my anxiety is almost non existent. I'm able to drive places, be in crowded places, get better sleep with little to no issues. Caffeine isn't worth it.

I have anxiety autism and adhd. Keep drinking on an empty stomach but it has reeked havoc on my life. I get constantly anxious, moody, negative, panic, agitation, even psychosis
reply

I don't drink coffee that much and i've only drank about 3 cups of coffee from my entire life, and i don't get addicted to it (maybe because i'm on the younger side)
