Huh, so that original electrician was actually giving a slightly-high, but non-scammy price. I'd hire them again. Any work you do to shorten a contractors stay is the quickest way to save money. Even if you just convert your sweat into budget upgrades and end up spending the same.

I remember when I first came across Great Scott's videos back then during my DIY days! He's helped me save sooo much money by doing stuff myself btw my wife loves all the stuff I've made for our house and even our cars hahaha. Thanks so much Scott! (:

In a few years this motor will lose power to lift the roller shutter - then you can save money once again.
Because then it will be enough to replace the capacitor instead of the whole motor - I know that because that's what I did last year

Very good idea, thanks for sharing. I would have drilled the hole bigger as well. For some reason though, I just knew you were going to show us a new 3D printer and print a new one haha.

I wish roller shutters ('rolling shutters') were a thing in the UK. They are only really used for garages & Industrial units here.
Nice video though.

I agree do it yourself is way more fun and a lot cheaper. The parts u are using are definitely the same as the contractors should use the rest is profit.

I’ve traveled to nearly all of the Western Countries in Europe and nearly every hotel these shutters and they make a massive difference.

It's really interesting to see just how different windows, casements, and mains voltage wiring is different between Germany and the US.
