Can I Beat the Snow? OFF GRID Log Cabin Sauna Ep8 Canadian Wilderness

canada The snow has temporarily melted, but can I beat the return of the snow and get the walls of the log cabin sauna high enough that deep snow won't effect the build? I'm getting into a rhythm and I'm able to notch and prepare at least one log per hour. The problem is, the days are short and we've been getting cold rain almost every day so I'm having a hard time getting much done. The weather forecasters are predicting a cold week coming up, with a lot of snow, so I have to continue raising the log walls while also managing my tools and building materials so that I don't lose them or have them frozen to the ground under the snow. Working on the log cabin alone in the Canadian wilderness is exhausting and I could use the bathhouse now. I'm really looking forward to firing up the wood fired heater in the sauna after a long day of chopping firewood or snowshoeing through the forest in pursuit of dinner

Sometimes our past really does come back to haunt us. Back in the 60's I quickly learned Not to eat what I killed, (Vietnam, and it still haunts me to this day. I will not say anything against you or anyone else who hunts animals, other than, Bambi & Thumper never tried to kill me. So I don't try and kill them. Maybe I better stop there. Good luck filling your freezer.

this may be a dumb question, but why are you hauling logs back and forth from the site to cut them? Can they not be cut on the wall by rolling them over and log dogging them in place? I'm sure I'm missing something but it just seems like a lot of wasted energy.

And further. In our sauna, the whole steam room is done inside the log house. And the rest compartment is attached to it from the boards. This allows the stove to remain hot for longer and steam. The rest compartment will be cool.

What do you think about when you're not doing the math? Do you have family? Do they come visit? Am I getting too personal? I love Cali, btw. She's a very cute dog. Very active and wants to play. Love that in a dog.

Really enjoy your down to earth approach to your projects. It is enjoyable for me to watch. I have been working at becoming debt free. Although I'll never really be off grid. I enjoy seeing those who are.

You know part of what I love about your site? The total lack of garbage, heaps of junk, plastic and old rusted metal. alot of homesteads in AK look horrible. like living dumps.

Love your Golden Retriever. Wished I can have this kind of life. Reminds me of Jeremiah Johnson beside Henry Thoreau.

Keep it up Shawn. Watching you work is helping me to formulate ideas for the building that lays ahead of me. I seek a quieter, more deliberate life.
