I am born and raised in Texas too; just north of Houston but I don t remember these cookies! Idk why! I do however remember the square sausage pizza and the pepperoni pizza with little diced squares of pepperoni. and (this may not be popular but) my personal favorite; chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy. I d get gravy on the potatoes only, not the steak, rip the steak apart in bite sized pieces, one bite at a time, and dip them in the potatoes and gravy. That is my nostalgic cafeteria memory!

Omg these are my favorite! I make them all the time! I thought it was just a Chicago thing lol. My school used to have a cake with white icing too. It was the best cake slices I've ever had for. 25 cents can't find the recipe though Thanks for sharing childhood faves!

Never had these at our school in Ohio but I am going to give them a try, they look delicious! My grand mother used to make a sugar cookie that she then smashed really thin with a glass dipped in sugar. They where paper thin and yummy. Wish I had her recipe.

I remember them too! I bet yours taste better though! ours were dry and gross!
If you want to get a little fancy, maybe use a glass that has a design on the bottom. When I have to press cookies down I use my glass. Makes it look pretty.

I hadn't thought of these in ages! I've been out of high school for nearly 42 years but these were available in our high school cafeteria and my gosh they were good. Thanks so much for the recipe and for the happy memory! They look delicious.

Ginormous cookies! Yum! Delicious under a little bit of vanilla icrecream. meybbe. We never had these in school. but we did have school peanut butter bars which I adored. (Lol, I'm sure they were made with Crisco)

I lived across the street from my elementary school and the smell of those cookies baking in the morning was intoxicating. I couldn t wait to get one. Thanks for the recipe. can t wait to re-live that taste and smell.

Hi A! I liked your recipe today. I just dont like waiting for cookies to cook up. I only make bar cookies. I don't know that's just how I am. But. these do look super delicious! Great video my sweet friend.
