I am an upper goober old-school I T nerd and remember the 1994 war of MS Dos IBM Os/2 wars. and the first E3 expo held at the Georgia world congress center due to an undiagnosed illness I taught myself Quick BASIC aka Qbasic. however I attended E3 expo2004 tenth anniversary in Los Angeles for my 21st birthday. and it was glorious one of my items on lived a great high quality life before I die. I was born in 83. the video games rot your brain Nintendo generation. I decided I'm going to learn how to make video games I have various IT certifications and licenses like amateur radio license FAA remote uav/ drone licenses

Yes Emerson did make desktop computers back in the 80s/90s. The Packard Bell 386 my parents' first working computer, but they returned two Emerson computers before getting the PB. Think they ordered them through a catalog. I think each computer worked once, then failed to work on the second use. I didn't start with DOS/Windows computers with hard drives until a 486, so I had no idea what was going on at this time. Well, my dad had a Sanyo 1150 CPM computer before that, no hard drive, but two 5 inch floppy drives. With MicroPro Office (not sure they called it office; it was the -Star programs: WordStar, DataStar, ReportStar, CalcStar.

There was no real deception in the packaging showing a piano keyboard. Windows 3. 0 did actually support midi by accessing the computer resources directly, just like DOS did. The switch over to 3. 1 switched all that over to a dedicated sound management utility that covered everything but totally messed up any music software created for version 3. 0 (or even DOS. For that reason, I maintained two installations of Windows. 3. 0 and 3. 1. and switched around, depending on what I needed to do. It was a pain in the lower extremities, but it did prevent my previous software investments from going completely to waste.

I last used Windows 3. 0 on a Zenith 248 with 286 processor and a 128 MByte read/write optical drive. I would have used 3. 1 but 3. 0 was the laast version that would work with a 286, The confusing thing was with extended and expanded memory. One type worked with 286s and the other type worked with 386s. I don't know whether to blame Intel or Microsoft or both, but it was a pathetic mess (sort of like Windows 3. 0) I played with windows from 1. 0 and it was an interesting curiosity that in no way threatened Apple. I still think Apple should have sued them, but the copying was not enough to win.

I kinda feel guilty about when I upgraded to Win95. The salesperson said -I guess you'll like the improvements. - and without thinking I said -Oh yeah, that Windows 3 stuff is so crappy, absolute garbage. I mean, God, what was Microsoft thinking? I still get nauseous whenever I remember doing something involving Windows 3. I'm not so much moving into the future as I am trying to escape the horrible, disgusting past. - and the poor guy looked uncomfortable. -

I think it's a bit sad that Windows 10 doesn't come with the nostalgia entertainment pack games such as reversi, ski free, tri peaks and what not, they are still fun games if you ever lose your internet connection on Windows 10, or if you are bored without knowing what to do. Shockingly i learned what a Macro Recorder was in this video, in all those years i actually never heard of such a thing existing, i was hiding under a rock without me knowing it: \

I am showing my age but the first windows os computer I used was windows 2 for a very short period then windows 3 became the main os at my employer in the late 80s/90s before we went to a more stable 3. 1. This video was a blast from the past for me Windows 2 was a very basic GUI when we went to 3. 0 it wa like a huge step forward. I had lost count how many times I used to reinstall windows 3 on my 486 dx2 pc but I got very prefisunt. Thanks for this video

The application that I was on the development team of, and that supported Windows 3. 0, was Aldus Persuasion (which first appeared for the Macintosh. It was a slide show preparation application. The shrink wrapped product box for the app resides in a box in my garage. But desktop publishing app, Aldus PageMaker, was also supporting Windows 3. 0. Persuasion was developed in C and PageMaker was developed in C++ (very new language at that time.

It's weird how notepad is more or less the same program now as in 1990, its not the exact same executable, as it's now a win32 application since Windows 95, and they've been adding features to it even until recently. In the latest build you can even read files with Unix encoding and use ctrl plus the scroll wheel to zoom! It's still not feature rich but I just find it funny how notepad basically goes back almost 30 years or so

Grab a 2 port sip ata device, setup a freepbx server locally. Connect sip ata device and free pbx to same network and setup freepbx and then setup the ata to connect to freepbx. Now you can dial out with a real modem: ) setup a second pc and throw a bbs server on it, since its a dual port ata connect 1 line to 1 and the other to the bbs server and then just dial the extension and walla: )
