If I could make a plea here it would be to not make any hasty decisions based upon the recent hurricane damage. I'm saying this as someone that's coming up on the one year anniversary of personal family loss, causing even more reflection this time of year. Maybe recent events have made you sense the relative mortality of your own collection and how vulnerable some of it may be. Or perhaps it's a surprising side-effect of having to move around countless boxes of things in a continuously growing collection, realizing that there's years worth of stuff currently there and you just don't need any more. Having mentioned my own loss last year, a lot of real life things came into sharper focus. Outright losing a member of the family makes you look at everything differently, even if it's an expected loss that surprised no-one. I've reassessed several things in my own life because of it, maybe even becoming more of a complete man now than I ever could've been before. Even with all of that and knowing how temporary some of it is, I know I can't and won't stop doing the things I love. I know I'll lose the other member of my family that I hold extremely close to my heart, full-well knowing it will break my heart when they die, but I know that's how life works. Maybe there's a little of that going on here with you sir, seeing how much you have and how easily it could get damaged. But that too is all part of life. There's many invaluable or near-invaluable collections out there that could get damaged or destroyed at any moment. A random fire or earthquake that takes out the last first production Apple I, or even a professional tech museum. It never stops being a possibility, but that doesn't mean we give up and bunker up. It just gives us context for how important what we're doing is, or to give us an opportunity to look at all we've done so far and see the value in it. A bit of a ramble, but it's with a full heart. Don't give up. This is still worth it, trust me.

It's so hard to imagine being uprooted so suddenly and entirely. No wonder such an event triggers re-evaluation, especially after doing one thing for so long. I really hope you'll come out stronger after all is said and done!
I also can somewhat relate to the ah, it's actually nice to have all that stuff gone. After many years, things end up being more clutter than anything else. I too wouldn't really want all that stuff in my private living space. Maybe, if you're still interested in continuing in a similar way going forward, it might be the perfect opportunity to get your business end of things moved to a dedicated business place. As in a studio (might be just a small rental flat as well, plus storage options close to it. Having your office out of your private space can be liberating, since you'd no longer be living in your workplace, so to speak.
Whatever you decide, I just hope that your life goes back to some kind of normal soon, and that you still have a wonderful Christmas. Take care!

It's crazy how the CPUs used to be 4x the cost of the motherboard, and now the motherboards are just so much more valuable(assuming things are working. I take it, most people who trashed their old PCs in an era where so much became so worthless(performancewise) so quick. But they often saved the CPU by minimum, and most people saved a few good copper heatsinks and you could always use a backup hard drive. It shouldn't be a surprise to any of us here who collect and restore systems, that non-computer people(or people that were into building PCs 20 years ago, but lost interest now) have boxes of CPUs somewhere in their house. It's pretty hilarious, if you think about it. Like the old school mattress porn, stashed. So Clint, you get a lot of 'Grandpa's old shash'.

I was thinking of sending him an original Playstation (new unused. Everything is still in it's packaging and the tape even on the lid. Never powered on though so I have no idea if it works.
I tried to sell the Playstation but I got no interest in it. It didn't even get any views on the page. Then again I'm social media challenged as I don't like to use them apart form Discord, Rumble and. uhhh well I think that's pretty much it. I put the video up on rumble showing the device and parts but yeah nobody saw it. Nobody was watching videos with related tags for it.

9: 12 I have this exact same drive in my daily driver computer that I'm using right now, the LG GGC-H20L. Mine was made in 2008 however it's identical to this one otherwise. It's a great drive, supports every format of optical disc under the sun except it can't write blu-ray discs which is fine with me. Mine was a form of payment from my cousin when I built him a computer years ago, his case had one of these in it and he insisted I take it as he was short on cash to pay me. Figured it was an okay trade since I'll never need another optical drive again.

While not _really_ relatable, I can understand not wanting to fill your home with so much stuff. I'm currently a few years into my first home myself and have found some rooms which were previously designated spaces become reduced to mere storage. I'm currently working on figuring out a solution for this also, so if you find a viable option, I think many of us in this hobby would find it interesting.
Be well, and thanks for what you do. Happy Holidays, Clint.

Time has a way of healing things, I don't see LGR and what it has evolved into for the past 15 or so years is going anywhere anytime soon. There is too much demand for your content and retro gaming as a whole, You and countless others have taken a terrible punch in the gut from that nasty hurricane. Thanks for what you do, we really enjoy it. We know you will have some temporary setbacks but you will power through this, look forward to the next video.

I had one of the HD-DVD Blu Ray combo drives. At the time it was about the same price to build a whole HTPC with that drive as it was to buy a blu ray player.
I do NOT recommend trying to use it with Vista or earlier. The DRM with the playback software, particularly routing digital sound through HDMI was a nightmare. It wasn't until Windows 7 that that PC was fully reliably useful for HD disc playback without a ton of hacks

As much as I love your content, it might be a sign of time to pack it in and go for something new and treat it as a hobby again. Maybe think of starting a retro store or arcade like 8Bitguy or even do something different altogether. In fact setting up a interactive Retro-tech Museum would be pretty awesome, people can go there see all the stuff on display and some models actually use and play around with the tech.

Dude. You should totally have a separate space like a room in an industrial place to keep all you stuff, and potentially do your recording work. I know there's a whole thing with overhead on rent for something like that, but it really might be worth it. If you're already paying for storage, you could move everything to the new spot and at least stop paying for storage

I, like many I imagine, also saw the Ahoy video on the Chris Sawyer games, but I was not aware of Locomotion, and was pleased to see it was available on steam, so I have it in waiting, but Might get it on GOG if it is available there too. Supposed to be a bit slower than TTD but more in depth Either way Mods are supposed to do a lot of QOL bits so should be fun.

There must have been different versions of that Virtual Springfield box. I had one with the same artwork shown here, but it had a translucent plastic cover over the box itself with the Simpsons characters and title printed on that instead, and the box underneath just had Springfield on it, so it gave the whole box a neat 3D effect.

I appreciated this video series while it lasted. I love watching the unboxing of old tech, especially tech from the era when I was a nerdling. Totally understand why, I hope your house gets fixed soon and you can get back to a sense of normal. Thanks for the memories with the unboxing videos!

It was a once in a century event, before climate change. Now, the Appalachians are going to get hit by hurricanes with more and more frequency, and greater ferocity. Human industry isn't stopping pumping gigatons of waste heat into the atmosphere every day, you know Best prepare for that.

I hope that the negativity out there hasn’t been affecting you. You’re the light and pillar of the retro community and I’m impressed by your perseverance. Sounds like maybe you need an office/studio/storage space Maybe with full time staff cataloging everything

I think my father had that model railroad software - I remember it as a kid and would love to find a download version of it. Haven’t messed around with it in many decades and would love to tinker around with it again! Glad to know the name of it too!

Stuff is just stuff, lives and people are what matter. I'm not happy that things were destroyed, but you have to put yourself (and others) first. I'm sure many of your viewers can appreciate that. Have a great Christmas and New Year! Keep on being you

Completely understand why you decided this. I do think an online auction would do nicely to clean stuff out, and most of the content that we're here for would still be around when you decide to discontinue this. Hope recovery goes well in terms of a new home

We do have the Videogame museum run as a charity here in Warrensburg, Mo. Not quite a good fit, but it is fun and does have lots of retro gear. Since I'm an old Amiga Service tech, I have debated on donating one of my stack of A500's as a game system.
