What happened to the LGR collection

Two trees cleaved through my house after Hurricane Helene blew through my mountain home of Asheville. While I’ve shown that the damage to the structure is intense, many have asked what happened to the LGR retro collection, vintage computers, video games and such. So here’s an update! Of course the most important thing to me is that myself, my family, and my friends here are safe. But I am also deeply thankful it was not any worse in terms of items destroyed or damaged. The majority of old hardware and software survived, and LGR videos (eventually) will continue! Consider donating to local organizations helping Western NC recover: LGR elsewhere: 00: 00 progress so far 01: 00 inside damage 04: 06 affected items 09: 38 stuff safe in storage #LGR #asheville #hurricane

I think the arcade machines will be okay man, clear that damp insulation out the way as soon as you get the chance though. Cabs are astonishingly hardy. Me and my bro got a half dozen cabs from an estate sale that had been sat in a damp garage for 20 years, was a bit of work but they're all up and running now. As others have mentioned, you can give them a good old hose down and provided they're dried out good they'll be just fine! We regularly wash dusty old monitor chassis in the sink at the workshop. I've used a hot air gun gently wafted over them in combination with an air compressor! It's just a shame about those precious cardboards!
Anyway that's enough advice from a random geezer on the other side of the planet. Glad to see you're well, I've always enjoyed the videos over the years and look forward to the future.

Videos like this are so fascinating because it gives a brilliant insight into the personal aftermath of a disaster like this. I use this word hesitantly, but I've been. enjoying these videos. I hope I don't come across as if I'm happy this happened, it's more that I'm enthralled by the up-close-and-personal look at it all.
I nearly had the same thing happen something like 20 years ago. Came home from school and there was an entire tree mere feet from falling onto our kitchen. The only thing that saved us was the tree right next to the one that fell, which had a branch outstretched in just the right spot to prevent our house from being smashed. That was a terrifying week, looking out our kitchen window to see literal birds' nests but a foot from the window.

Oh my God, Clint. I had no idea you were in Asheville. I am sooo sorry, man. I have watched you for years and I know how much passion and care you have invested in this collection. Scratch that -- this was more than just a collection, this is your life's work. I am legitimately heartbroken for you and everyone else affected by this catastrophe. I noticed in your pinned comment that you have recommended that your fans donate to others who are affected. I'm going to do that right now. Just know that you've got a legion of people who you have never met who care for and appreciate you tremendously. We love you, dude

I am so, so very sorry that you and so many others were put in such a horrible and stressful situation with Helene (and now Milton too! I'm very glad to hear that you are safe and have a support system, but still, I can't imagine the horror of coming back to your home and seeing this, the stress is unimaginable. I admire the selflessness and compassion you showed in this video so very much, and I think it's wonderful you posted a link to support others in your area. Sending much love to you and everyone in your community: )

Photograph, number and list online all the damaged things from your collection and sell them. The LGR water collection will sell faster than you can say bingo and rovide you with the funds to start a new collection and revamp from the flood. The numbering and photos can stay online as a double authentication along with a certificate of authenticity. You can provide radar maps of the storm over your place or something else. I got a bunch of ideas but meh.
Best of luck champ!

This isn't intended as a told you so, but my dad was always super cautious about having big trees close to the house for this very reason.
Once everything is sorted out, and if possible, it would be worth looking at getting a few more of them removed to at least get the heavier trunks out of reach. As nice as it would be to have a house nestled amongst them, it will hopefully save you from any head/heartache in the future.
Wishing you a speedy return to normality!

I'm glad to hear most of your collection is safe, but the destruction to your house is significant and hopefully this helps a little. I've been a fan for many years and it sucks how life is so unfair sometimes. If you don't end up needing the money, please pass it on to someone who does, but I'm suspecting you'll need it. Good luck with the repairs and your community will be here for you, even if it takes a while to resume your videos. All the best mate, from down under.

I was worried about all your collection stuff, it’s like a museum and at some point I wondered if you should put things in a museum for added protection.
I am glad you’re ok. My great grandparents lost everything they had in multiple fires over the decades, so I always assumed it’s possible I could lose everything in a fire, since I’m in Wisconsin there’s no worry of hurricanes or anything, but never know with floods or fires (tornados are a non concern.

Good to hear that the damage is bearable. Thinking positive, I kind of like the idea of getting a normal LGR review, but every shot of you or the PC/box etc are just in the worst looking spot of this mess without mentioning or adressing it at all. Might be my strange kind of humor, but I wanted to share the idea. Again, I am very thankful to hear that you are well, well supported and actually already on the way back from catastrophe to improvement.

I think you'll be surprised how many of the electronics, especially the retro stuff, are gonna be fine once you're done cleaning them. It's the electricity in combination with the water that causes the brunt of the damage. Since most of the stuff wasn't running, the amount of fatalities among them should be low.
Glad you're ok. A house can be rebuild. Sure it sucks and is a costly endeavour but that could've ended a whole lot worse.

A few things upstairs.
Dude. Idk, imagining the place where I live and sleep at night just kinda being like this is a real gut-punch. Don't get me wrong, your positivity is great! But this is tough, and it is okay to have a lot of really Weird feelings about it for a while. Sending virtual hugs from Atlanta, my friends and I all hope to see you and yours recover soon! The games and stuff are just common ground.

As a fellow collector and archivist, I feel nothing but utter devastation on your behalf. The history, the technology, the things that cannot be made any more - I know they are just things, true. But for people like you and me, they are what we love. And you have lost so, so much. I am so very sorry LGR. I know you said most of your collection survived, which is a massive relief, but any loss is still devastating.
reply

Man, this sucks. I would be so angry and disappointed and lost if I had a home and collection destroyed like this. But then I stop and think about how it's just a bunch of wood, metal, and plastic, and it makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have friends and family and how wonderful it is to be alive at all. Cheers, Clint. I know you'll turn this around, however long and troublesome the process will be

I'm so sorry this happened to you and it's a relief to see/hear you're taking it all in stride. Natural disasters can't be helped but it breaks my heart to see so many things that you've spent so long collecting and caring for in this state so I can only imagine how it feels for you. I hope things all work out for you and I know we're all looking forward to seeing you rebuild your collection!

It makes me wonder how many classic computers, arcade games, and pinball machines are destroyed every year in floods, fires, Tornado's, and other disasters. It is my hope that people rebuild with prevention in mind. These modern era storms and disasters are sadly catching alot of people off guard. A life is more important than things, but it always sucks to see them get damaged like that.
reply

This is so awful! Im glad the main portion of your collection made it.
I hope this isnt a dumb or rude question, but will you cut down all trees that are close enough to the house that they could land on it if they fell
Your videos are so special to me! They remind me of a time that is gone and that I have nostalgia for. Is there any way I can help Do you have a go fund me

reply

Clint, I am so glad you’re okay. I saw an article saying that you were hit and immediately had to make sure you were okay. It’s great that most of the collection looked like it survived, but even at 95%, thats still a good chunk of change. Hopefully the house can be helped, mold is a pain to deal with in any form. Best wishes to ya bud, hopefully this all turns around!

Oof. You probably have insurance for everything but that doesn't mean that its easily replaceable or at all. And even then you'll probably have to fight tooth and nail with the insurance company to get what you are properly owed. I expect lawyers to get involved. Make sure to claim back your legal costs from them if you have to go down that route.

I can't imagine what you've been through clearing out all the damage and figuring out where LGR goes from here. But your cautious optimism and calm demeanor earn my respect. Onward in the journey of life, thanks for all the videos, and looking forward to some unusual ones ahead! (oh, and I'll donate to the NC orgs as well)
