Gordon Murray T50 supercar - details and interview about the 'new McLaren F1' - Autocar

Think of the Gordon Murray Automotive T. 50 as the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1. Designed by Gordon Murray - creator of the F1, designer of championship-winning F1 cars for Brabham and McLaren - the T. 50 is a new analogue supercar. Its construction is carbon fibre. It has three seats, with the driver's seat in the middle. Behind that is a 654bhp (663hp) 3. 9-litre V12. There is no 0-60mph time or top speed quoted as yet, because that emphatically isn't what this car is about, Murray tells Autocar, here. Instead, he says, it's about the driving experience: which is why it weighs just 986kg, why Cosworth has co-operated on a brand new naturally aspirated engine and why it drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The T. 50 will cost -2. 36m plus taxes when it goes into full production at the start of 2022. Murray tells us all about this car, how it's constructed, and how some of its performance comes from a fan situated at the back of the car

I do find it slightly annoying that everyone keeps calling this the new mclaren F1, yes Gordon Murray -is- the the mclaren F1 and was the designer but this is Gordon Murray Automotive-s new flagship car. If this is the new McLaren F1 then the new Pininfarina Battista is the new Ferrari Testarossa going with the principal that Pininfarina designed both cars

So excited about this, although i'll never get to drive one. The F1 is my all time dream car.
Concept/ethos: perfect
Engineering: Top drawer
Profile: stunning
Rear: disgusting - cant get over the fan, blackout rear and zonda esque styling
Front end: Pretty but screams 2002 toyota MR2 to me
Cant wait to see this up against a mclaren p1

This is a unique car - it would/will easily and unquestionably be the first choice of any genuine driving enthusaist over any other car. It will rule for decades as a masterpiece that others makers will have neither the liberty of the sense to approach in what they do. It will be known forever as the greatest car of all time.

I love everything about it! The fan can help slow down OR speed up the speed, the V12, the rotary dials, the materials, the design! Absolutely LOVE the emblem! Mr. Murray sounds like a super down to earth person! I wonder if he has made an electric?

-Can someone explain to me what the 28, 000 revs a second means? I know what rpm is but what is this 28, 000 revs a second thing? How does it work? He says it makes it more responsive but how does it work because it has rpm of 12, 000. -

I wasn't completely sold on the front, but actually I think if you colour coded the front scoops, so they are the same colour as the rest, then that will hopefully transform it. Either way the car maybe the best car if all time.

Emm looks really good combination all over part, F1 front, rear pagani with additional rocket, lamborghini wheels, taillights look like ferrari or raxiom-halo and headlights look like porche, I love that good job mr. gordon

Looks like a supercar fetus. not pretty. rear end is a 458 with a fan rammed up its ass. headlights like a goofy mini cooper and every line is trendy and 'been there done that'. Very disappointed in the look of this car.

How many of these interviews has Gordon now given? colour inside and out is boring - My only criticism.
Otherwise this is the EndStatement in Automotive Design married to a real V12 petrol engine. Glorious Legacy.

Interesting that the interviewer, himself, is not really an enthusiast for the car. A different side of Gordon Murray emerges in consequence of this than we see in a number of other interviews.
