The Fuel Sipping Family Hauler 2021 Sienna Review Part 1

Looking to seat 7 or 8 and average 36 MPG? How about AWD and 35 MPG? There's a new Sienna for that. Thanks to a new all-hybrid lineup, the Sienna is the most efficient minivan in America by a mile. While the Sienna still won't fool anyone that thinks minivans are the sign you've given up in life, those that are open to the concept will find more comfort and convenience features than the average crossover and a spacious interior. I just wish the second row seats came out

I had a 1st gen, have a 2nd gen, and plan to buy 4th gen. When I had 3 kids in my 1st gen I found it easiest to take out a captain s chair have the two oldest in the back and the youngest in the other captain chair.
When I got the 2nd gen with 8 seats I still put the two oldest in the back, put the younger two in the middle row one in the center seat and one outboard and took out the other outboard seat.
I then started watching kids and have had car seats arranged all kinds of different ways. I then started leaving all the seats of the van in so I would be prepared if I had a drop in kid.
I will miss not being able to take out the middle seats but it isn t a dealbreaker for me.
I do wonder if the eighth seat will be a full size seat like on my 2nd gen sienna and the new odyssey or a mini seat like sienna 3rd gen and older odysseys. I have yet to see any pictures or videos of the 2021 8 seat configuration.

Thanks for the review. I have been thinking about the new platform and from your review and others I am seriously moving from my Odyssey to this new Sienna. The interior looks very nice! I like the features such as the little shelf below the consol. I don't think I would trust the Pacifica because of their reliability. We have the Odyssey. We have taken the second row seats in and out, but it is not easy. I think the seats moving back as far as they do is what I would find more useful because we shop at Costco. Great content!

If you didn t eat that bacon, I was prepared to drive from Florida to chastise you. LOL. Your reviews are second to none, in their thoroughness. I also appreciate that you mainly stick to vehicles that normal people can buy. I like Bugatti s as much as the next car nut, but mainstream vehicles are much more interesting, IMHO. When price is no object, what s the point. Bangle-hood indeed. ;)

I ask, but no one seems to be able to give me an answer. What's the story on a 5-8 year old Toyota hybrid when you try to trade or re-sell it, with say 150000 km /94000 mi, on it? Does it have any resale value compared to a gasoline model? does the dealer offer you the same for trade value as a gasoline model? Anyone have any experience trading/selling used hybrids here?

I had a 2005 Odyssey and the second row seats were out 60% of the time. Plywood and sheet rock went in as well as bicycles and the occasional dirt motorcycle. The Odyssey's towing was marginal uphill on dirt roads with a 3000 lb trailer (front wheel drive) so its replacement was a Silverado 1500. Gas mileage on the Silverado sucks however.

We owe Sienna 2013 and looking to get a new minivan. The fact that the second row seats don't come out makes huge impact on our decision. We used to and looking to transfer the 4x8 drywall sheets and other stuff, but now it's not feasible. :( Thought to get the new Sienna with my eyes closed, but now there is some food for thought.

So Alex, toyota finally add cvt in this family mpv. 2. 5lit engines v4 make 176hp add more hybrid motor and CVT. Make this minivan fun to drive
Other end Nissan rouge 2. 5 lit engine v4 make 181hp and cvt transmission more smaller then minivan. Still too slow for heavy footers
I think i pick toyota wonderful minivan.

Alex, Eschewing opinions and sticking strictly to the #facts for the moment, we all know the V6 Sienna's lap times routinely beat the Porsche Taycan's and the V6 AWD model could outclimb a Wrangler on the Rubicon. Is this new Hybrid's #36mpg and 3, 500 lbs tow rating really enough reason to accept these massive compromises?

One of the BIG reasons why we bought our Pacifica, is that we don't have a truck and we love the fact that we can collapse both rows. I have used this feature many times in our short 6 month ownership of the van. We even use it as a hotel on weekend trips to the forest instead of pitching tents.

Every time I had to remove or re-install the middle row seat in my Sienna it such a struggle. It's not that it's hard. But the procedure is not straightforward and a rarely use feature such that every time I needed to use it, I would proceed to forget how to install or remove the seats.
