So Close To Greatness Acura TLX First Drive Review

For 2021 the TLX has some big shoes to fill. It is simultaneously the flagship sedan of the brand, and the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class fighter. Like Cadillac's CT5, the TLX is a full-size larger on the outside than a 330i while being about the same size inside, but unlike the CT5 and more like the Volvo S60, the TLX still starts as a FWD sedan with Acura's SH-AWD system being optional on all models. Acura has certainly pushed the boundaries of how dynamic an Acura can be with the new TLX, but is that enough? Let's find out. The: Awesome review as always! Acura is back. somewhat. Much better then the previous model, but still needs some improvements. One thing I don't like about Acura. They be gunning for the Germans, but doesn't hit the mark. Take notes from Genesis, good car overall.

You made some excellent points on the comparison between this and the S60. I would actually like to see your more detailed take on the value proposition between the two. As for the interior material quality I definitely don't like the upper door trim and the hard plastics found here. I'd like to upgrade my 2013 Accord EX-L and considered this, but I don't want to feel non-premium materials for upwards of 50k. Aside from that, it really comes down to the TLX Advance package or S60 T6 Inscription for me.

5. 7 seconds? It s as fast as a v6 Camry and 2. 0T accord. Also a hare quieter from your tests than the tlx, and also more efficient.
Hmm so It s heavier than the accord 2. 0T and Camry v6.
So I suspect that because of the weight, the Camry v6 or accord 2. 0T may outhandle this because of the weight.
Also Alex, how does it compare to a top end Camry v6 XSE or even the accord 2. 0T Touring?

Wish the tech was better. the precision cockpit previewed in 2016 is nowhere in sight it seems. Also, the A-Spec should have better rims and tires. 2020 TLX has terrible acceleration and I hope this one does it better. This does look like an improvement over the previous-gen so I will test drive the A-Spec but overall I'm looking forward to the Type-S in the spring.

Classic butterface that needs to have a salad. Big on the outside, small on the inside.
24 MPG combined out of a turbo four is not good. Consequence of having big drawers
This is 3-4 inches wider than the other cars in the class, but still very space inefficient.
Not sure how that will sell more cars. so this is good, but will never be great.

I had the same expectations as Alex. I was blown away and super excited when they revealed the car, but now I think it s just a good car overall. I think the curb weight is a major problem as that would solve so many problems in this car. I would need to test drive both, but I think I would favor the G70. Great review!

4000 lbs for a 4 cyl, 10 speed with OK gas mileage, and a price tag of 45k? Not even significantly more cabin space with the stretched wheelbase?
Flop lol. Dismal sales coming up after the first couple years. Acura is smoking that joint.

I really don't get why they got rid of the 8DCT from the old base TLX, refined a bit more that would have been a great transmission for this. I'm surprised at how unlike their previous cars it is; Not great interior space and heavy.

this car is bigger than E-class and competitors but has less interior space that C-classs and competitors DESPITE being transverse engine, how is that even possible, horrible packaging
reply

Bigger, more expensive and no more naturally aspirated V6. Not what I was looking for. On the other hand that makes the 2020 more appealing to me, especially if I can make a deal.
