Pella, Iowa is possibly the most Dutch city you can find in the world outside of the Netherlands. With windmills, bitterballen, tulip festivals, and incredible bakeries you can feel a bit of Holland in the heart of the USA. From Jaarsma Bakery and their Dutch letters to the Dutch architecture you would swear that the stairs would need to be ladders

As a Dutch person I can tell that the Dutch Letters can be found in the Netherlands, but:
1. It is associated with a children's holiday called Sinterklaas on December 5 (ps Sinterklaas translates as Santa Claus and December 5 is not a typo.
2. The S is clearly a connection with Sinterklaas.
3. A Dutch letter is called an Amandelstaaf or Banketletter in the Netherlands
4. They are mainly available a few weeks before Sinterklaas

As a Dutchman I can say that it looks amazing! Would love to visit there one time. Also the food looks interesting. Definitely want to try that and compare.
The only thing sticking out like a sore thumb which is totally US instead of Dutch: The car-centric infrastructure. I think the town maybe even more idyllic if there were Dutch themed bike lanes, removal of the 'stroads' and more underground parking lots.

Fun fact; the school kids are let out of school early during tulips time so they can be in the parade. In fact if your elementary kid your forced by the town to be in parade.
Also even all national chains are required to have Duch ethstic, as I kid I thought all McDonalds had Fake stain glass windows and Made out bricks

I'm from the Netherlands and I've never seen those letters over here nor tasted them. Chocolate letters are very common at the end of the year for celebrating Sinterklaas (the feast of St. Nicolas.
BTW Pella isn't a Dutch name. Pella was the capital city of ancient Macedonia where Alexander the Great was born.

My extended family used to go to Pella every 2 years for the week of thanksgiving. It was my grandmothers hometown where back during WW2 she was run over by the milk man on a horse drawn buggy! Still love that town tho

We do not cal it a klokkenspel maar carillon. Chlokkenspiel is German voor carillon and im sorry but it looks a bit like a Dutch town. If you go to the Rijp or other real old dutch towns and villages you see the dofference.

I am from Pella! I am so proud of our Dutch heritage! Our Tulip festival is always the first Thursday, Friday, Saturday of May. Thank you for making this video! It gives great exposure to our small town!

Parking 2-ton pick-up trucks where bike-lanes should be. Pella, Iowa looks nothing like a Dutch town.
And the food. what's this S thing? Een kromme frikandel in bladerdeeg? Is er ook een P voor Piet?

I love your enthusiasm! But: that blue canal water. cringe. Well it certainly has Dutch visual elements but it's really American in most aspects. I mean, a blogna sandwich is far from Dutch LOL.
