A Very Good Sleeping Bag - Outdoor Vitals Summit 0-F Review Luuk: What is the R-value of you sleeping pad? im guessing its not 4. 5/5+? So no winter pad? Makes a difference when its that cold out. You will lose a lot of heat through your pad. You need extra insulation from the bottom since your sleeping bag isn't doing anything for you because you are laying on it.
No pun intended but a sleeping bag of $500 seems like a lot and it is, but there is a difference, and its probably in the weight of the bag, the quality of the down and where the down came from (animal friendly. With outdoorgear some things seem like they cost a lot. But like camera gear there is, in most cases, a difference. Keep that in mind next time you review something; -)

Nice review. I wonder what the fill weight is, I can't find it on their website. I think with a bag made by western mountaineering, which is the gold standard, you're going to get more fill weight, 850 down instead of 800, some additional design features and more loft with a slightly lower overall weight. In other words, they're both 0 degree bags but the WM bag will likely feel warmer and weigh less. You're also paying for a bag made in the US. Is that worth an extra $450? Depends on the person's budget and wants. This seems like a great bag for the price.

EVERYONE PLEASE REMEMBER! While you have a say 0 degree bag, you should take 5 degree's off of it for the real rating. Every sleeping bag has a EN rating. A EN Rating is a the Comfort rating, the lower limit, and the extreme rating. For example I have the Marmot Never Summer 0 Degree Down. The EN rating is as follows: EN Comfort of 12. 7 degree's, EN Limit: -1. 2 Degree's, and a extreme limit of. I forgot. The point to all this is if you want to be comfy warm in your bag, take 5 to 10 degree's off of the bag temp and that's it's actual bag temp.

Decent review. but these bags are too roomy for a mummy shape. Compared to 60- or 61- shoulder width, 64- is not enough decrease in constriction to make any difference in comfort. and it takes more energy to heat up. The extra material also adds weight. Speaking of material, inexpensive bags (like this one) use cheap nylon liners that dont breath well (or at all) and make the bag very steamy/sweaty (even low price point models of very established brands have this issue.

Thanks Robby! I've been contemplating replacement of our 15-year old synthetic bags over the past two seasons and was considering down myself, cuz I'm on the same page with getting cold easily and the value of staying warm at night. Your comments to those concepts are just the affirmation I was seeking on the idea. .but on the contrary, I'll probably need more -knee room-. Your detailed observations are appreciated.

robby, someone mentioned a top 10 movie video which i thought would be good, im stuck for movies also so lol, looking to binge on movies, you have talent, would be cool to see what your movie taste is like also, or maybe a tv series top 10, i find tv series more watchable and lengthy as i have a very long attention span, and long comments too, so i guess i should stop now face palm

wearing a merino wool base layer would help, also if you get too hot, it absorbs the sweat and keeps you dry as the sweat gets absorbed to the outer layer of the fabric which keeps you dry on the inside, its expensive but not as expensive as a quality down sleeping bag, highlander do a pretty good base layer at a affordable price

you need 3 1/2 to 4 inches of loft for 0 degrees. that bag is NOT 0 degrees just from looks alone i can tell you that. i live in Alaska and ive used 0 degree down and synthetic bags in -7 degrees and its not fun. not even tolerable. toss and turn trying to keep part of your body warm. i wouldnt take that bag below 10 degrees

I have the OV mummy bag, I too am a cold sleeper, but wearing clothes inside the bag will make it feel cooler. Now it just my shorts way below freeze point. Retains maximum body radiation to about 7 hours, before dissipation. # wear less be warmer (down bags)

Great review. I've been interested in this company ever since I saw their ad a while back so it's great to see and hear a review on this bag. You can get a silk liner for it for more warmth and a commenter mentions merino wool base layer to be warmer too.
