Total Solar Eclipse Camping - Shawnee National Forest in 4K DW's: Hello Guy's! I really enjoyed the video took me back to the time when a couple friends and I camped out there back in the mid 80's. We rode our motorbikes there packed down with camping gear, I had a Gazetteer map of the area so I pick a very secluded spot down in the southwest corner of the Shawnee Wilderness Area, we followed a dirt road up a ridge to where a camp spot was marked on my map, well we got to where it supposed to be and there was just a foot trail down this ridge to a nice flat spot that was good to set up a few tents, yes we rode our motorbikes down that trail about 1/8 mile without any problem, we didn't see anybody for the 2 days we was there, thank's for sharing the video I look forward to seeing more like this, take care my friends!

Stuff like that happens. First time I took my (now) fiance on a hike, I was feeling off coming up to the hike, but the day we went I felt fine. We woke up the next morning and I was. well in a crap ton of pain. Turns out I had I massive double ear infection. I tried to catch that trip on camera but just took picture. Leaving with no inner ear to help balance was. fun when doing log bridge river crossings. I tried to remedy that -annual trip- the next year (which was this year) by making it better, and we had a lot more fun. Better gear. better time. still barely caught it on camera (but it was a massive success. Also Nice shot of the eclypse. We caught the partial, but still had a blast.

You guys are so brave for going out there at the end of summer during Spider Season! I live on the edge of Morgan Monroe State Forest in Indiana, and I don't go into the woods on our property from June to September. There are too many spiders, chiggers, and snakes! Also, as a Vedic astrologer I can tell you that it's not good to watch the eclipse; it will give you bad karma. Notice how the country has gone downhill since this eclipse, everyone was out watching it! We have two more coming up in 2023 and 2024, so best to stay inside and meditate: D

lol. You guys and the spiders. We generally worry more about the rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, bobcats, and mountain lions more in Shawnee than the spiders. The humidity. welcome to southern Illinois guys. Air you can wear for about 3 months out of the year, every year. My family lives and loves Shawnee for camping and hiking. The scenery is breathtaking. Honored you guys came to our neck 'o the woods! Love you guys! Great video as always!

DUDES! A super entertaining video. 2 parter: backpacking & eclipse both expertly shot as always.
I'm a little ashamed to say, I lived in Illinois for over 45 years and never investigated the Shawnee! After my first time I was hooked. So much to see. Ideal times to visit are fall (before hunting season) and late winter/early spring. No bugs. So many sites to visit. Thanks for making this video.

Was Thomas carrying bear spray? We've not had bears (officially) in the Shawnee since the 1800s. Everything you hiked is second growth. The pines (non-native) were planted to help control erosion but now they get diseases and are killing our native oaks. It is bitter-sweet because I love the pines, they make the place look awesome but the threaten the hardwood forest and make it shade tolerant.

Oh my god I love you guys. I love the diversity of personalities. I love the mild dysfunction (in this one. Its absolutely normal. We're all trying to find our way in a vast world, and its a beautiful thing. You guys are one heck of a team. I love that you find meaning in bugs hanging from cobwebs. Ha. thanks for another great adventure. :)

Sorry you guys had to cut your campout short, Shawnee National Forest has tons of hidden gems. I've lived in the area most of my life & only recently began searching them out. Great footage of the Eclipse! Hope you know we're going to have another in 2024! Lastly, amazing intro! You guys are talented!

-I would guess those little bites were from -Oak mites. - We had a huge amount of them back in 2017/2018 in the midwest. They are so small they can go through clothing threads and they bite bite bite. So uncomfortable. I thought about that the minute yall said little bites. I love your videos!

This is definitely an adventure for the history books! In a way, being able to see the total solar eclipse with a bunch of friends and eating delicious food is better than if you had to rough it in the woods. Maybe you guys having to turn back and leave was more of a blessing than a curse: )
