If you are into video editing (mostly, let me tell you the best gear: your laptop. End of story. -
I finally tried and am working with PROXY VIDEOS! -
Just slap that 4k into a lower resolution, in Resolve or Premiere or whatever, -
set the playing resolution maybe also to half or whatever and EDIT with no issues! -
You do not actually need even a tower, if you do it this way.
Of course, who does not like PIXELS and high resolutions, -
but, then I would go with a desktop tower and destroy everything in my way with it: .

My experience with a tiny Aorus 1080 eGPU:
It's really awesome and the dream setup in theory, ignoring CPU bottlenecking! My poor 8550U just destroys any opportunity for smooth gaming. The main issue is if I DO get something with a 5800U when they get USB4 or an 1165g7, i'll only have just stopped CPU bottlenecking a 1080, a 5 year old card! I shall continue with my desktop, but we're getting there!

I also have a Dell XPS 9560 up graded to 32 GB ram box this EGPU after watching this video. acquired an ASUS Strix r9 390 8GB card and knew I'd be underpowered, so, I got a 650W 8+Gold PSU. I can't get the drivers to install as an ERROR 173 comes up (Hardware not found. Any advise? I'd like to see a setup video to help this -OLD guy-!

Is it really need to be a laptop has thunderbolt type-c? Sorry for the question. I'm not that techy person.
I am interested and planning to buy EGPU for my MSI GL627RC due to it becomes slow when rendering 3D models. (Interior Design rendering to be specific).
Is it compatible with my laptop?

eGPU was my forray into PC gaming. I put a 1080 Ti into a Razer Core X and used it with an HP Spectre. Now I use it with a Hades Canyon.
Way more convenient than building a tower. Just always be sure to use an external monitor or a TV.

Honestly, when you stated the price, that was a pretty hard turn off. It's a piece of twisted metal with electronic bits in it. An average CPU case shouldn't cost much over $100, and the electronics inside are, at best, raspberry pi equivalent.

Nice video. You can reduce stuttering and get some extra fps by connecting a external monitor or the TV directly to the GPU output rather than using the laptop display. A direct output can't do miracles, but it will improve your experience.

Awesome stuff but I think testing it with the video output directly from the EGPU to a monitor would be the way to go as you would get much better performance and Stability. Going back to the laptops monitor creates bottle necks.

Gives up a PC tower to save space. Buys smaller peripheral stuff that comes in small towers which also require more space than that they would have inside a PC tower, because they need their own PCU and external cables.

Mfs wil buy a 2 thousand dollars more expensive version of the desktop hardware, then buy one of the componentes plus the hardware to make it work and still not gonna be able to go mobile with their gaming lmao
