Sauna Build Alone with My Dog in a Snowstorm Bottling/Canning Meat over Fire

goldernretriever I continue with the sauna build, slowed down by a snowstorm one day and frigid temperatures the next, forcing me to pile the logs on top of the sauna walls and build a fire underneath to thaw them out. My dog, Cali the Golden Retriever, is at my side as always, relentlessly retrieving her training bumper until she falls asleep in front of the fire in the cabin. Inside the log cabin, I bottle (can) meat in a pressure canner on top of the wood-stove. I fry trout in cast iron on the woodstove and for breakfast, I continue my temporary ketogenic diet with a substantial meal of eggs, bacon and cheddar cheese fried in butter. To keep warm during the day while working on the log sauna, I place a cast iron pan on the fire inside the sauna under the tarp and logs and I heat up some leftover beef ribs and lamb shank in tomato sauce

sir, i could watch your videos endlessly! i have recently come across your videos on youtube and i am trying to find and watch as many of them as i can. this is so therapeutic for me. stunning visual quality. i have never been an outdoorsy kind of guy, and watching these kinds of videos kind of makes me wish i was. and i was actually raised pretty much in the mountains of kentucky, but live in knoxville, tennessee now. and i am 63 years old. i used to go in the mountains and hunt ginseng with my dad and me and my brothers did also, and go tracking in the woods and stuff like that. i have great memories of it. i just never learned how to build things as you are doing and i love watching this. thanks for sharing all of this with us. i absolutely love these videos!

Hi. Happy and Blessed Easter!
I came across you videos at lunch one day at work and I'm hooked. A fan from Oregon. I love Kali and really admire and am inspired by your beautiful log cabin. The home you've built and lifestyle your living is truly inspiring.
I do have a silly question on this video. There are two sound I hear in the middle of the video. One is a distant hammering / pinging sound?
The second sound I was curious about is kind of like a camara shutter sound?
GOD BLESS, MY FRIEND
TAMMI

the middle part if the caner can have a quart jar with water in it to make it fresh and secure for you to drink in the summer time am thinking of coffee or a soup in the summer if there is no rain you'll have it then I have done it this way with the meat no liquid is needed for the jars and put the spice on top cause it will boil on up to that level and down she goes all into the meat have done chicken and fish also this way

I am so impressed with your skill! Do you have work that allows you to spend this much time building these projects? I saw in 1 video you had 3 place settings. Does your wife spend any time there with you? Anyone else? Do you have help or or you doing this all by your onesie? Sorry for all the questions but this 77 year old impressed inquiring mind would really like to know.

Is anyone else concerned about the amount of oil/fat used in the cooking? Don't get me wrong it looks delicious but this gentleman's arteries must be really clogged - not good for you, even if you are avoiding other processed foods. Calories wise I have no doubt it all gets burned off, but the cholesterol levels must be through the roof.

Hi Shaun. Noticed your pressure cooker was wobbly. Ours was the same, as I guess over time they become convex with the pressure. Turned ours over, and hit the bottom center with a mallet. It made it slightly concave. It then sat square on the stove top, and was more efficient. Regards. Tony

That dinner you made around the 15 min mark looked amazing! So yumm. what kind of fish was that - salmon? never mind, I just saw it was trout - it looked more red at first. but still amazing! I used to fish for rainbow trout in the homestead lake in AK and loved it: )

I had to laugh out loud when you were shoveling snow off the porch and Cali was doing all kinds of flips in the air to try and catch the snow. You work too hard but that little dog of yours helps to bring you joy and a chuckle too. Love watching. be careful out there.
