The comments crack me up. You meant in addition to Cali but many assumed you were suggesting to replace her. LOL. Personality will be critical of course in a new dog - if you get one. I dont know the reasoning behind you wanting to do that - so like everything else you do - Im sure youve thought it through. If she is in a place/has the skills now to train another (that you want in a new one. so you end up with another like her and not with her changed by the new one. I think youre right (if you get another) to get one like her. So its more complimentary - not negatively competitive.

I alwaays got a puppy when my dog was five or so years so that they were still young enough to enjoy the company and playing with a pup when a dog gets older they often arent tolerant of a puppy annoying them wanting to play and the older dog helps train the younger dog without knowing its doing so a puppy will automatically follow the older dog which gives you a easy way to teach your puppy to come when called because at first it will come when you call you call the older dog at first it means they dont come to their name they come to the word come

Shawn, I think you should get another dog because Cali needs more companionship like herself. You have your wife and children and other friends. I know Cali is small but like you said, she's fierce, and I believe I that one day she is going to save your life, I believe I have seen that. Even if you got another dog that is bigger, I still believe she will be the one to come through for you in a crisis. Please keep the dog boots on her and put some dog coats on her during the fiercest weather. God bless!

A life jacket for a dog is not idiotic when the dogs aboard any kind of boat in deep water. In the ocean, at speed, things can happen really fast. Watching your dog drown is not part of the excitement.
Shawn, would it be hideously inauthentic for you to peel off some trails with your snowmobile so the both of you could walk more easily?

Took my dog out for a hunt, duck n geese, he got cold, and I didn't notice right off, he passed out, I called my vet, and sat in a blind with him in my lap and zipped him into my coat. walked out with him in my coat, and he recovered. it was a lesson learned for me, and I got him a floatation vest. whew.

At our deer camp in a tar paper shack, we had a large wood stove for heat and cooking. We had a pile of aspen for cooking which our old timer called pannycake wood. It heated up quickly and cooled off quickly. It would drive you out while making pancakes. Something to consider.

Thank you for protecting her feet. I also wanted to thank you on the relationship video. My husband passed three years ago from cancer and I wonder if I will find someone to love and be good to me. God may want me to be alone and that is ok.

Even huskies need booties when spending a lot of time in the snow. I used to skijor & working dogs will continue on even if their paws are bleeding. Your dog is very devoted & would prob just keep going. Glad you are taking care of her paws.

I couldn't help but notice, you were breathing out steam, while inside the cabin with the stove full of burning wood, just how warm can it get inside withe the stove at high?

Love the little boots Cali, great idea. I'm sure whatever dog you decide to get be a good companion and she'll have another dog to play with while you're working too.
