Ice and Fire 7 Challenging Days Camping in the Canadian Wilderness

An amazing 7 rough days in Canada's Algonquin Park with the winners of History's Alone, Jim Baird and Ted Baird, costarring Buck the adventure dog. Freezing temperatures, high winds, cold rain and difficult fishing conditions challenge our ability to keep warm, start fires and to catch enough fish to keep us energized. Bull moose, loons and other wildlife accompany us as we paddle across lakes, down a flooded river for days through raging waterfalls and whitewater and then back up a steadily rising river for another couple of days. Paddling solo, we each pilot our own canoes - me in my new Swift 14' carbon Prospector, Ted in a Swift Keewaydin and Jim in a Novacraft Prospector. On day 4, we visit with Scott and Griffin of Drenalin Adventures and their friends at their amazing campsite on a beautiful Algonquin Park lake in the the heart of the park. Despite the challenging fishing conditions, we manage to land in excess of 75 brook trout, the largest by Ted, measuring 21 inches and almost 4 pounds! To see the trip from a different perspective

Shawn James very capable, tenacious and resilient. Thank you for sharing your dream and life. Such an incredibly beautiful country. Your video watched recently, camping on ice and telling the sounds of mother nature at night, frozen trees bursting and ice cracking. Mesmerising. Here in my country South Africa we're having the worst drought in 50 years. Our climate very hot summers and moderate winters. We don't have a fall with such beauty. Our autumns are barely noticeable as most of trees here dont lose their leaves. Yet our country is beautiful too. Your winters, snow and ice, pristine whiteness, is something we just dream of. Your love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors comes across strongly. We too cook a lot outdoors. Wonder what you would think of our South African roosterbrood. Smile. Bread dough shaped into buns (and proved) and cooked on a grid over wood coals (not flames) and then buttered and enjoyed with barbecued lamb loin chops. Thank you again Shawn James. God Bless you and yours.

What a beautiful trip. I wish I could join you. I did once a four week trip on Wollaston Lake in a folding kajak. I know exactly how it feels to be on the water, catching fish, making fire, cook and setup your camp in the wilderness. It's now 23 years ago, but I still have the memories and with your videos it feels like I'm right back. I'm the same age as you and hopefully I will be able to make my way one day again from Germany to Canada. Right now I'm dealing with artifical hips, but when fully recovered, I will try to get to Canada again. Thanks for your videos. You live the dream I wish I could live

Hi Shawn, just catching this vid with you and the Baird brothers today, a year later! I just want to tell you, that about 15 yrs ago I was there! Walking right along that ridge! 36: 31 on your vid. Beautiful scenery and those rapids were a great challenge, so I walked up on the ridge and my friend went down them! Amazing to see this! Thank you for I did not have a camera at the time. Liz Gray, from Peterborough, Ont. Take care

May 28/20, 9: 52 pm I clicked on SEASON 3 - Sauna/Bathhouse and was rewarded with this: The playlist does not exist. One of my clients has remote off grid 40 acres in the Bella Coola Valley and someone owes him a sauna so the plan was to email David the link.

Nice. Already watched Jim's videos. Kind of tough to have to carry those guys, too. Like all 3 canoes. Your paddle for rapids looks like a Northstar hybrid carbon/wood. Know someone else makes them. Voodoo or something. Great video composition.

I was wanting to comment on Ted's video, but lost it. Anyway thanks guys really enjoyed. All that fish to cook up and enjoy. Very entertaining, all I got was tuna fish sandwich. Say hi for me to those guys. You are great outdoorsman. Brian

It was so nice to get away with you. Listening to the loons, the wind and the waves, the snapping of the fire all so soothing to the soul.
