My wife and I move our furniture into the master bedroom after I finish installing the stone hearth, the window trim, stairs to the main log cabin and miscellaneous small details. Log Cabin Building, Bushcraft, Survival Skills, Cooking, Canadian Wilderness, Off Grid Living, Homesteading Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me. I have had three coal ranges in my time. But now l live off grid in the bush, l can’t afford one.
Even though there are two coal range manufacturers without 2 hours of me, their prices are sadly above my income.
So l am now on the lookout for a second hand one.
An engineer has moved into our area and hopefully he will be able to restore one for me. He is prepared to take a look.
I had my first range restored. A beautiful 1890’s model.
In the meantime I will keep cooking on gas.
Love the trivet on top of your range that the kettle is sitting on. I’ll see if he to make me on of those too.
Thanks again for being my inspiration for going bush and living off the grid.
Got hooked on watching your videos when l was working over in Australia.

Shawn, I have been watching you for at least 5 years now I have to admit, I have yet to come across another cabin as beautifully hand-built as what you have achieved. Anyone would be glad to have one just like it. Each video I watch, I become more and more impressed with your skills and determination to make a homestead off the grid for you and your family. From the first cabin build with the loft bedroom to the current cabin, the outdoor kitchen, the garden inception and creation, and now the move in to your newly completed bedroom, I am awe struck and inspired to learn the crafts you have mastered. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I can't wait to see what you do next!

Not sure if you've spoken to this yet, but I'm thinking about the fire place, it's great when the fire is not enclosed, and only seen behind 5 x 6 inches of glass. We lived in 1800s home, twin fireplaces each end of two rooms adjacent, living and dining. It was likely only source of warmth back in those days. It was amazing growing up in winter with both roaring, blazing hot, all seven kids ( yes 7) of us huddled in front of either or, so plenty room for all of us! Unusual when that ever happened. Except the 1973 Catalina 400 station wagon, seats facing backwards

Shawn, I had to pause on that amazing oil painting in the corner, I was wondering with your photography skills if you could be so kind to replicate that picture with Cali and sign a print for me I would of course pay whatever the cost. I feel it truly captures your spirit at one with nature and the light emanating through the trees. please, and thank you - Texas viewer been watching 6 yrs since the proenneke's cabin!

i have to say that i don't like the deer head and shoulders mounted on the wall. I don't have a problem with you hunting them for meat but then displaying part of the body as a permanent trophy is exceedingly abhorrent and grotesque. It's like you're saying look, I killed this deer, I'm BETTER than it - see how I put part of it on my wall.

I see some touches of your wife in the finishing touches but mainly feels like a big man cave. LOL! Many blessings to you for sharing this with us!

Wow, very beautiful. You have great talent and outdid yourself on this one. Now you have 2 finished homes to live in. I expect your family would stay in this one when visiting You don't say much about your primary home with regards to it's size in comparison to this cabin. Your wife and daughters are very lucky.

You're a clever man. Over the years I've seen your vision change and you've become more domestic in your approach to the Cabin.
Possibly at the behest of your lovely wife. Great job on creation a comfortable room for her to sleep. Great job. Take a pause and pat yourself on the back.

5: 20 nice cuck chair. Bro, I'm insanely jealous of your homesteading and home-building, your massive arms. But that old-timey furniture style looks stuffy, oppressing, geriatric. I recommend switching to contemporary minimalism, make the room colors lighter breezier younger.

I had lost you for a long time, tonight I found you again. So much has happened to you since the last time. Did you build a top level to your original cabin I have so much to catch up on with you and your family. Good to see you again. Hello to your wife!

I have to say, I've been watching for years now, before the first shovel of dirt was scooped from the ground for this cabin, its absolutely amazing. I also admit I've stolen many of your ideas of design and decoration for my own cabin. Thank you. L73.

Shawn you now realize that you’ll have to build two more bedrooms for your daughters PLUS a powder room for the women. Did I forget Cali She needs a pup bed in the master bedroom. My sore back envies all the work you do!

After watching I realized the bedroom is on the original cabin. It’s so beautiful, I love the fireplace it’s such a great place to relax the night away. I see someone is missing, dare I ask. So happy I found you again.

Congratulations on your beautiful bedroom. Is the headboard and footboard an antique It looks like it is. Love those old style beds. All in all a cozy and comfy room to retire to. Sleep well in it.

Absolutely awesome cabin/homestead Shawn. I have a question, the beautiful fireplace in the bedroom, in cold months, when the fire dies down how do you keep the cold air from coming into the bedroom

So pleasurable, the armoire and the secretary are my heart's desire. Wife must be in heaven! And all done by hand by the husband! Best Mom and Aunt, miss my family much! Grandchildren are so lucky!

My dad was a Jack of all trades he could build anything or do anything. When he didn’t have a tool he needed, built a forge and forged his own tools. Those men are making a comeback.

Gorgeous job, Shawn! I love the bedroom fireplace. Liberal California outlawed them several years ago. Regards from far north, rural, conservative California; the state of Jefferson!
