Everybody gets into so many cutting edge, trendiest recipes and then after a few years somebody makes come classic like prime rib braised for 18 hours in the oven and then seared when time to serve and bsy red potatos, roasted with butter and herbs and garlic and onions with asparagus topped with a little holendaise and they are like WOW THIS IS THE BEST FOOD EVER. smh. Yes. Thats why they are the classics and also what you get in any long lived, fine dining establishment, usually French cooking based or americanized old world recipes, from right around the turn of the 20th century. Nice strudel. Can we get a good peach cobbler recipe? Or crows nest.

Interesting fact: during the WWII Deutschland was in high deficit of dairy (especially butter, so a lot of strudels were made of animal fat (usually pork fat, so eating this kind of dish is not kosher. strudel is an austrian recipe. germans often don't even understand the terms used in austrian cuisine. most germans (bavarians aside) wouldn't even understand what a topfenstrudel is.

A true French, German, Austrian strudel will be made with pre laminated puff dough. This method is perfect though for the novice baker. The filling looked so good.
