Trust me 76 has NOTHING besides the skin of Fallout. Survival elements are extremely softcore and you can negate everything anyway so Hardcore survival players will find it lacking.
There's only perk cards and they had no respec so build makers won't be able to casually build a class that's powerful and then make another that's powerful like MMOs and other RPGs like Borderlands so it fails to emulate that.
Everyone truly wanted co-op fallout with 2 or 4 friends with a story not 24 people so anyone you meet runs away from you and doesn't want to team up. They 9x out of 10 prefer to play solo. Any time there's an event going on at most one player will come unless it's a nuke. And even then people higher level seem to have so little to do that all they do is farm nuke sites. Imagine when that's gonna get repetitive? Yeah quickly.
They nerfed experience gain and junk and ammo received from certain places so now it's also even more tedious to mod despite enemies with any armor at all being bullet sponges so yeah. That's a thing that's deemed wise. I can't believe they had the brass to nerf things that were fine being easier when the mechanics aren't made for survival. They have game breaking bugs and they Nerf guns? The same huge bugs are still around as well. And somehow I've stuck around for 80 hours.

The real issue with this video, not what literally anyone else is saying, as well as fallout 76, is boiling fallout down to an austhetic.
Thing is fallout is about themes and mechanics, not austhetic. That's why fallout 3 was worse than new Vegas, why 4 is a bad RPG, and why 76 is hot wet garbage.
Fallout is about a deep roleplaying experience and deliberations on the nature of war, consumerism, and human interaction. That's why between 1 and 2 there are a lot of changes to the austhetics and it still works, and why tactics and 4 are disliked by people who like RPGs. Because they aren't good fallout games. Because they don't include those elements.
And this is also why 76 is bad. Bethesda made the same mistake the video here makes, where they think of fallout as an austhetic, and stripped anything that made fallout good.
Saying a games genre is fallout means that it's an RPG with these specific themes. Anything else is supplamental and irrelevant.
For example you can absolutely say that outer worlds is fallout genre. Its a deep RPG with these specific themes.
But 76? Absolutely not

no its not hard at all to see the genre, it just doesnt really have a name. its like one of those far cry dead island destiny copycats but with base building. but it REALLY plays like destiny with the leveling and the loot, and being able to run into other players in the wild who can help you out.
a shoot and loot type game maybe like borderlands?
i mean if this game doesnt have a genre then ac odyssey doesnt have one either. it has dialogue options, leveling, but also plays like an action adventure, and has nations that can switch allegiances. but it also has a merc system, and theres also a cultist clue detective style search gameplay portion of the game. and there are ship battles. but we all know ac has turned into a grindy loot based game as well.
alot of games are either trying to copy destinys success or fortnites success. even though both games were from genres that have been around forever, games like to reinvent themselves and say oh no we're pioneering this or were the best at this.

Do people have nothing better to do than trash talk a game they've likely never played? FO76 isn't even close to perfect; other players are annoying especially higher levels that f-ck with you, but it doesn't happen as often as you think. There's no human NPCs which I don't agree with, but it adds a dreadful feeling as you discover the remains of the survivors before you. The CAMP and base building elements feel better than F04, but they share a lot of similarities.
FO76 would probably be better if F04 was never made, but it's hardly a bad game. It'll probably keep players occupied for a decent length which is all you can really ask for. Some games like RE7 are what people would consider a -good- game, but where did that go after the -10-12hr playthrough?
In short, stop hating on FO76 just because it's the trendy thing to do.

Fallout 76 is a Fallout 4 mod. A lousy premium priced Fallout 4 mod. Just go play Fallout 4 with mods. There are a couple of Fallout 76 simulators on the nexus actually. Better yet, if you have Fallout New Vegas, go get the New California mod. It's way better than 76. Show your support to the New California creators (& other worthwhile mod authors) instead of paying for Fallout 76.

-Fallout 76 doesn't have a genre- - Umm. yes it does. Its a survival game. Look at Rust, or Ark or 7 Days to die. this is just another iteration of that. but with some Fallout aesthetic.
If you people can't figure out something as basic as this, what the hell are you doing even trying to cover anything game related?

Oh you forgot the other features that fallout includes like:
- Riddling bugs
- Always online Single player game play
- Servers that crash and end your single player game play.
- Unsafe unencrypted multi player game play!
- Bugs from previous games!
- Reused assets from Skyrim, done badly.

I still think Mikeburnfires description of his f76 video is a perfect description. -There's a lot of fun to be had, if you try to have fun. - It ain't perfect by any stretch, but it's been great fun so far, screwing around with friends in a beautiful post-apoc virginia.

the non-optional survival mode was one of the bigger reasons why i cancelled my preorder after the beta, another being the lack of a pause button. i personally don't play fallout to stress out, i play it to relax, n being thirsty, hungry, n constantly alert is stressful

There are two types of genreless games though.
Those that seemlessly integrate styles in a way that highlights the best features of all of them, and those that fail to do any aspect well enough at all for that to be considered their primary genre.

In fallout 76, to the south of the nuka-cola plant on the west side of the map, there is a small house contains many references to the monster factory fallout 4 series, including a rad-roach with a wedding ring, and a -pristine coffee tin- in a crib.

Polygon's brand is all about being kind and inclusive, so it makes sense that their coverage is more positive than everybody else's. They're wrong in my opinion, but it's still kind of nice to see.

76 is pure garbage and they should feel bad for asking $60 for garbage. It also rightly alarms people who hope for a good outcome for the next ES game. No one wanted an online Fallout game.

Polygon: Makes a light-hearted video on the continuing theme between the games being it's unique world rather than it's need to stick to it's routes.
Gamers: Fallout 76 bad lol

Polygon, I'd like to inform you that in the year 2018 leading to 2019, human beings are not much fond of shills. In fact its disgusting and no respects what you have to say Polygon.

I think you-re way overthinking this. It-s genre is MMO. Why? It-s massive, it-s multiplayer, and it-s online. Simple as that.

Seems to me like a mix between a standard MMO and a survival FPS. So yeah I think it kinda has a genre.
