I think where Creative really had the advantage was they were bundling CD drives with their sound cards offering a full all-in-one multimedia add-on package, versus Adlib which I think just had sound and maybe speakers for a package. Price was probably also a factor too. Even if Adlib was a premium sound system/brand, there are always those who will refuse to pay the higher prices especially when the difference in quality cannot be justified as much (or they can't tell.
However I think it's also comical now that REaltek pretty much owns the sound market at least in terms of computers for the bulk of people. Yes there are probably still some people who buy add-in sound cards, but many people I think still just use the built-in sound as the integrated options (like more recent processor graphics) have gotten quite good to a point where adding a $100+ sound card may make some gamers think twice. They could spend the extra $100 on something else that might make their gaming experience more enjoyable. Plus I think the real hardcore sound buffs tend to run audio to another external audio device anyway (from the computer.

Crap, it is frustrating everytime you see a -dick move- like this(dick move to put it mildly. A group of artists(because that is what it is, egardeless of being engeniers in electronics, develop a breaking ground form of instrument to bring art closer to everyone, and immediatly after some soul sucking entity takes over and molds peoples culture twisting it to a simple commodity or appliance. Sure, it helped making that instrument reach far, but the idea of the creation slowly gets lost, and so does the soul of the creator.
Everything should be at least -off the shelf-, resticting knouledge and technology is inviting mediocrity and selfishness, if anyone can do better with something than you find your something and your someones to build up instead of holding back.

seeing a 486 go for 500 makes me sick knowing how many i had and destroyed. i mean they were junk! noone told me that when i grew up I would miss these things when they were long gone. its okay tho, i have a collection of things. some people dont or cant. i want an old commedor but i would rather have the X16 or whatever 8bitguy is calling it these days. I think I have an old AMD-5k pr133 66Mhz from 96. I removed the CPU because my stepdad would notice his old computer missing. sadly i lost the heatsink, fan, and clp. i suck. i may have fried this chip. ill shove it back in one day and film it.

God I hated FM music on PC. So weak and flaccid like my grandmother-s dick. The Tyrian soundtrack was definitely the cream of the crop though. I don-t get that Adlib Jukebox though. I-ve never seen any PC mix FM and samples together in a music file, so those RL2 files would be proprietary. Basically, I doubt anyone but Adlib could-ve created those tunes which really makes the function useless. Didn-t sound too bad though, with a similar technique to the Sega Genesis (FM needs to be balanced out by proper samples or real instruments in order to sound good)

This was a very interesting sound card back in the day. I saw it in an issue of PC Gamer being pitted against the Sound Blaster Pro, MediaVision Pro Audio Spectrum 16, and MediaVision Thunderboard. I really liked the AdLib Gold 1000 but no Sound Blaster compatibility means it was a failure waiting to happen, and I. (wisely) went the SB Pro route. No regrets. until I saw this video.
Dang I could've hit real gold if I went with this card and sold it off for a tidy sum! Screw Creative Labs! --

Oh god those horrid PC speaker sound days. I remember as a kid being terrified I was going to wake my parents up whenever I snuck downstairs early in the morning to play games. There was NO volume adjust or way to shut it off until you were in-game, plenty of times for the obnoxious loud bleeps and bloops to pierce the morning calm.

-13: 59 I'm always interested in relative spans of time and here we have the moon landings featuring in an AdLib ad. Barely 20 years had passed between the moon landings and the AdLib's development - and that's now over 30 years ago - Hat's off to the AdLib devs. Seems like they fell victim to the ruthlessness of modern business.

At 5: 27 LGR uses the the Pilot Precise V5 RT which happens to be my all time favorite pen. I use it for everything, drawing, drafting and writing. It rarely runs out of ink but has an extremely thick dark line that doesn't blead much or smudge as much as the Pilot G2, my former favorite. I can't endorse this pen enough.

The adlib did what Roland brought to the pc, that thick fullrange defined sound, with yamaha every day spare parts. That studio sound in your room playing a simple game(if you had some speakers. I still listen to electronic music, and music in general waiting for those clean thick synth moments of those days.

I keep seeing the Ensoniq Soundscape listed there in those old CGW reviews, price lists and game soundcard selection menus. Did you ever review it? I had the Soundscape 2000 when it was first released, and when it died (I should never have tossed it as people fix them now) purchased another one off ebay.
