Things I loved that you didn't mention here: 1) Whimsical food stalls. I loved those designs! And everything was exactly one tile square, so it was very satisfying to drop a booth into a tiny spot. 2) Underground and nighttime gameplay. I don't think either of those made it to RCT3, and I was very disappointed. 3) I preferred the art style for the characters in RCT2. They seemed a bit too cartoonish in RCT3. 4) Discovering the joys of near-miss pathing and track placement. Free excitement with no nausea! On the other hand, it was great to be able to rotate the map in RCT3, because some things were very frustrating to place, in this game. All in all, I'd say Planet Coaster is the ultimate, but it takes a mighty rig, if your park gets very large.

It's bizarre how good this game is. I love sim games. Theme hospital, Sims, Civ, Planet coaster, Zoo tycoon and ofcourse the Sim city games. But Rollercoaster tycoon is just so easy and fun to play. Used to play it as a kid, and still sometimes come back to RC 2 as a 30 year old.
It's the grid based system, pop up windows and sound design that keeps me coming back. Planet coaster was fun, but there is just to much, rollercoaster tycoon has just enough.
Maybe it's nostalgia, but for me rollercoaster tycoon 2 is the best coaster sim game out there.

Gosh I remember playing this game as a really young kid. Back when I was like 9. I don-t know how I did it as I was just a kid and this was back in the 2000s. But I remember this laptop I used there was a way that I could glitch it to play the game without purchasing the game. I believe I downloaded the demo of it. And if I wasn-t connected to the Internet it wouldn-t be able to confirm that I play the demo too long or something like that-s.

Well I could be wrong about this game but heres what I think!
I think about what roller coaster tycoon really is that we can build what we want that we possibly cant and also since parks are getting rid of their good coasters! I think that's what roller coaster tycoon is for! And to me it somehow is! I have no intention going to any amusement park i will just play roller coaster tycoon and build ride what I want! Played rct2 mostly all my life!

Still the best amusement park builder game (actually RCT 2 is my favourite. I mean there is planet coaster etc. Etc. With beutiful todays 3d graphics, but. Somehow I prefer the art style of this and overall experience more. Simpicity and grid style and game mechanics that this game has. It's not allways about nice 3d graphics or complexity etc. But the overall playing experience, right kind of harmonic simplicity, feel and gaming mechanics. Fun!

I would be very interested to hear your points why you think RCT 3 is a better game in every aspect.
Because for me it's quite the opposite. The only thing that RCT 3 has over the 2d games for me is that you can actually ride your rides. Everything else I find vastly superior in the first two games. Mainly the most important thing, the gameplay. And as a close second, the atmosphere.

The thing about 3D graphics is that it acts as the booster when the game comes out, but it also acts as the hindrance when the game gets old. 3D games needs to be really good that it gets remastered later on in order to be viable. On the other hand, 2D graphics age very well compared to 3Ds. For that reason, I love RCT1, 2 much more than 3

I remember picking this up back in '99. I was obsessed with it for a good while. And then I picked up the Loopy Landscapes (includes Corkscrew Follies) Expansion 2 Pack a while later down the road. I still love the first two games, and RCT1 will even run fresh out of the box on Windows 10, as long as you enable the DirectPlay feature.

I've gotta say, in the years that have passed since this video, my views on the RollerCoaster Tycoon games have changed somewhat. I'm now a much larger fan of RCT1 and 2, and less of a fan of 3. I still think RCT3 did some great stuff for its time, but I'd now say that RCT2 takes the cake as the best in the series and has aged better than 3.

haha, man rct 1 was the best game ever. i remember back when i had a mid range pc but never had proper sound drivers, and i had to take it to the computer shop to get the darned drivers and charged 60$: ( bc the internet wasnt much of a help. i played this game for days without sound, it was that good!
