Well, those of us with a bit of mechanical knowledge knows BMWs are the easiest cars to fix and maintain ourselves. Otherwise, stay away. Im on my 4th BMW now, a F32, all of them I bought 2nd hand for dirt cheap, right out of warranty with low mileage (10k-20K. I use the cheap price as an advantage for me unlike most people. These are some of the best vehicles to enjoy on the road if you know what youre doing. Why do you think Toyota turn to BMW for developing their Supra? BimmerCode/BimmerLink apps makes it easy to diagnostic any issues with the car. If you do preventitive maintenance, you can avoid many problems that were caused by something minor in the first place. But you do need to know the N55/B58 engines, their common problems and what to look for. Also, you want to stay with the BMW inline 4 or 6 turbo engines, any of the BMW V8/V10s are really a nightmare to fix. I love Scotty but having owned 4 low milage BMWs that I bought for cheap and enjoyed owning, I dont regret any of it. So take everything you hear with a grain of salt.

Hi Scotty, can you please make a video about why so many German cars ( VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche) burn engine oil so badly? I know some Japanese cars do also burn oil, like some Toyota 2. 4L engines, but Toyota solved this problem after 2009 or 2010. But these German bastards have never, and I guess they will never solve this oil burning problem. Here is what I think, no matter how well a car drives, how safe a car is and how luxurious a car is, if it burns engine oil ( oil consumption is higher than 1 quart between service intervals when the car has done less than 100k miles, it is piece of garbage, and the manufacturer should be responsible for this problem. Audi and VW claimed that the oil consumption of 1 quart per 1000 miles was completely normal. I just think this is the biggest joke I have ever heard about cars in my life. Can you please share your thoughts on this with us? Thank you

Enjoy your videos Scotty and agree with you most of the time; however I disagree with you you on the Ford vs. Chevy thing- Ive owned Chevys all my life and have always had good experiences with them. Currently have a 2010 Silverado that I bought in 2012 with 28, 000 miles. now have about 88, 000 trouble free miles-granted not alot of miles however all we drive at work are Fords and we have had WAY more issues with them-although I will say the Fords have been abused much more than my personal truck. Anyway I do enjoy your videos but you seem to have a huge anti-gm bias. I have talked to many people that have a Ford or used to have one and have heard alot of complaints about them

I like Scotty, nice guy and knows alot. Theres no better mechanic than a hands on older gentleman, such as Scottie. Thats how i learned. These younger guys dont know too much. But, i wish he would stop putting the Germans down. I drive a 328i BMW, and yes they have their flaws, like any other car if you drive it enough without being parked everyday. But, also there are other good things about BMWS. The handling(nothing compares, the sound system, the engines and transmissions last a long time when properly maintained. And as long as your car isnt smoking, knocking, and the tranny doesnt slip, no matter what you drive you have a good car.

If you want reliable BMW get the E36/E46 platforms in Europe at least. Loads of cheap parts from donor cars to change if needed. I recently got a 318Ci cuz its cheap on taxes where I live and I installed on it, M bumpers, xenon headlights, climatronic and retrofitted the whole interior with electric leather seats and leather backs seats for 400euros(this being the donor car) and I got some of the money back by selling the original parts so yeah. Also did the oil change myself along with the oil and gas filter myself which is very easy and the engine came with 0 drips of oil. Older BMW are reliable and cheap to maintain in Europe.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2011 BMW X3, still excellent condition. A little over 90, 000. Just got trany fluid changed, I got some run around by a dealer about getting it done, but I know lifetime fluid is Bs, because its life of the fluid which I believe is what 60-80K? But I got it done and I change the oil every 5000 with Mobil 1 synthetic but once in a while after just starting the car and I need to get on the highway or I have to gun it for some reason, I get a drivetrain malfunction warning. But after it sits and idles for a while or turn off and restart it goes away. Any thoughts? Love the show and would love some advice

Scotty, I am an a older Australian who has over the last 20 odd years bought 9 or 10 old beemers. The trick used to be was cut little squares of black plastic tape to cover the warning lights. Of course keep the fluids changed and levels up, Ignore the dashboard lights, they are just sensors between the important bits and the read outs. I am at pains to point out that this worked before 2000. Now the barstards have devised away to defeat people like me by causing the computer relays to degrade over time or miles driven and so make it impossible to keep them on the road. Shameis that they were better to drive on our

Ok lets be honest, back to the 70s 80s and 90s bmw, s used to be more fun to drive than most japanese cars, and reliable and much sporty and very good materials inside out. but now things changed, some japanese cars are way reliable than bmws and more fun to drive with excellent materials inside out. my uncle lived in germany since 1979 and he works to mercedes company till now, he told me that german cars companies are studying and preparing to find the solutions to bring back the german reliability that was back in 80s and 90s.

A big difference between old and new BMWs is the level of servicing when new. Old BMWs used to get their oil serviced every 3-4 months as required by the factory. New BMWs might receive 1-2 oil services in their first 3-4 years of life which is extraordinarily hard on a motor yet the dealer will say that now the motors are made different so they dont need to be serviced like before. I see a lot of 5-6 year old BMWs on the road puffing blue/grey smoke which means the motor is quickly heading towards some major repairs.
