Explore new and used car deals with Carwow: Mat’s flown over to the USA for an American car showdown! He’s got his hands on an all-new Rivian R1T Quad Motor, and he’s going up against a Corvette Z06! It’s a petrol vs electric head-to-head, but does this colossal all-electric pick-up truck have what it takes to bring down one of the most iconic American sports cars Let’s take a look at the stats Starting with the Rivian, it’s equipped with four electric motors (one for each wheel, and these combine to produce 1, 025hp and 1, 624Nm of torque! It comes with launch control, but it also comes with a hefty weight, tipping the scales at 3, 170kg! New, it costs from $119, 000. Then we come to the Corvette. It’s powered by a 5. 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8, and this creates 670hp and 625Nm. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it weighs in at almost half the weight of the Rivian - 1, 685kg! A new one of these will have a price tag of around $120, 000. So they both cost around the same, but that’s about where the similarities between these end! So, which do you think will snatch the win There’s only one way to find out for sure LET’S RACE! Thanks to everyone who helped set up this race: - Jesse Iwuji: - Santa Margarita Ranch: - Rugged Radios:

The United States is currently a first-world economy maintaining a third-world social safety net. While it remains the wealthiest nation by GDP, that wealth is a mirage for the average citizen. Here is the reality of American decline:
1. The Wealth Extraction Model
The American Dream has been mathematically dismantled. The US is the only developed nation where a medical emergency is a primary cause of bankruptcy. Americans spend double the OECD average on healthcare for lower life expectancy than most of Europe, Japan, or South Korea. It is a system designed to squeeze profit, not produce health.
2. The Freedom Paradox
America lectures the world on liberty while holding 20% of the world’s prison population despite having only 5% of its people. It is a global outlier where gun violence is the leading cause of death for childrena statistic that would be considered a national emergency in any other peer nation.
3. Institutional Decay
The political system has devolved into a vetocracy, where a rural minority frequently overrides the will of the majority. Public trust in government has collapsed to near-historic lows (around 20%, while the education system continues to slip in global rankings, trailing behind nations like Estonia, Poland, and Vietnam in math and science.
4. Global Isolation
The American Century is over. Traditional allies in the EU and Asia are increasingly de-riskingbuilding their own trade and military alliances because the US is no longer viewed as a stable or reliable partner. From soft power to social progress, the US is no longer the leader; it is the cautionary tale.
The Verdict: America is exceptional only in its refusal to admit it has failed. It remains a nation with 21st-century technology, 19th-century politics, and a medieval approach to human welfare. America. A terrible country. A horrible people. An awful car industry. Mat would fit right in, being a sandwich short.

We’ve reached the point where we’re comparing a pickup truck to a supercar, just to see if the supercar stands a chance in a straight-line race. Even if the supercar had won every race, the mere fact that they can be compared at all gives the impression that supercars are pointless if what you’re looking for is the thrill of acceleration behind the wheel. And it goes without saying that when it comes to braking, a car weighing over three tons stops only a few meters further down the road than a supercar with carbon-ceramic brakes.

What’s embarrassing is how hard you hate on the Chevrolet Corvette C8 and any gm product you get your hands on. What’s embarrassing is how you all continue to compare the C8 to fully electric cars just to get a good race and think Chevy is supposed to care if you’re quicker off the straight line. The Corvette wasn’t built for this especially considering aero with a massive wing, but you’re _still_ getting walked. Congratulations gm for embarrassing Carwow yet again!

I've been asking the question but haven't gotten an answer yet. How are insurance companies viewing these electric cars, in terms of impacts to policy premiums We have basic electric cars being quicker than sports cars that generally get hammered when trying to insure them. Because there is a push from some (not trying to get political) to go electric, are the insurance companies looking the other way, or are they factoring in that these cars are fast in the hands of anyone

Not only are supercar pointless, but even the traditional fast M-cars are pointless as they are becoming difficult/expensive to own/park/operate compared to the electric ones. The only application I can see for these cars are for a vacation in the Alps, and I wouldn't even want to make the 2 x 1400 km drive to the location in one of them. I can do that in sublime comfort in my 5 series diesel, and I don't even have to stop for refuelling along the way.

Was on the highway in the TTRS ('19, just bolt ons 4intake tube to stock airbox with K&N drop in, unitronic 4 turbo inlet, midpipes (for sound. Saw the lights from one of these further behind me cuttin up traffic and once the lanes opened up, it was pullin on me RATHER quick. Dropped a couple gears tried pulling away and couldn't. I don't feel so bad now knowing what that thing is. They're quick!

Are sports cars pointless No. EVs dominate drag races but you dont usually buy a sports or even super car for a drag race. Its more than that.
As long as the EV manufacturers do not focus on the rest of the factors, sports cars will never be obsolete.
And even I could outrun this car in my Audi A6 from 2009 with enough track. My limiter only hits at 155 mph.

reply

supercars were always pointless aside from being cool, fast, and a status symbol for people who have enough excess money to afford such a machine.
so a Rivian pickup truck being as fast or faster doesn't actually eliminate the allure of supercars. it takes away some of it, but it doesn't eliminate it.

Yes, killed performance ICE cars in Ireland, Tesla model 3 dual motor, ( never mind the performance version) is 120 annual motor tax, any ICE car that can get close to matching it’s performance is over 2400 annual motor tax. No brainer, almost no supercars in Ireland, except tourists.

The ZR1 has already been unlocked by Cleetus McFarlands team on his Vette! So they can say the ZO6 hasnt been opened up yet meanwhile the ZR1 has entered the chat and said ' hold on im here now ' IM IN THE DOOR! This is an old video if they are saying it hasnt been unlocked yet!

Really this is nothing that new since the Chevy Syclone beat a Ferrari at a drag race in the 90s. The difference is that tthe Syclone could have also done hot laps on a track and kept up. But if you put that Rivian on a track next to the ZR1 all it would see. his tail lights.

All you need is a 1000hp EV truck for a daily to smoke supercars on the street and a $10K Mazda Miata for the race track to smoke them on the track. Crushing a supercar on race tires while cruising on All season road tires on the truck. :) Go team America.

So I’ve seen several videos of this model of corvette blowing away Model S Plaid Tesla’s, but unlike this video with the Rivian going against one, those drivers weren’t professional race car drivers. So perhaps it does come down to experience.
reply

Thank you so much for this video. I have a Gen 1 R1T Quad with 835 hp. Such a fun vehicle to drive and absurdly good pickup. Launch Mode was recently enabled for Gen 1 Quad vehicles but I haven't tried it out yet. I'm waiting for the right moment
reply

Going fast straight is not that fun. It’s the twisties that the Rivian couldn’t hang with the Corvette. I don’t think acceleration is that big of a deal these days because most cars are pretty fast. That’s why the Bac Mono is so amazing.
reply

Why TF would you put a Z06, a TRACK CAR, against an electric vehicle meant for acceleration and nothing else, and then declare the Z06 is a supercar
Supercar is a nebulous definition anyways, but a Z06 is 100% meant for tracking, not drag racing.

reply

My son has the Rivian, w/o telling me, he put in what, sport mode And then he punched it and I was sick for two days. no kidding, accelleration was brutal, and I used to street race the big iron' muscle cars back in their heyday.
reply

Yeah, it’s a Z06. It’s lazy in the lower RPMs until 4K because of the flat plan crank. ERay might be a better competitor I’d also say ZR1, but that’s got forced induction, so not sure if that’d be overkill or not.
reply

Super cars look the best but don't necessarily perform the best. Simple as that. Imagine owning a Lambo and being beaten by that ugly POS. Shouldn't even be a competition you would think. Title is correct.
reply

High end sports cars/ Supercars are getting to be like high end wrist watches. Bling. Other than that they are pretty pointless.
Impractical in most situations and not even an All out race car on a track
