2025/2026 Ford Maverick Hybrid Full Review - The Right Sized Giant Killer

The Maverick has seemed like the darling of the DIY community becuase of it's size, versatility, and great mpg with the hybrid. But if you wanted AWD capability you had to sacrifice that fuel economy, until now! The Maverick Hybrid AWD may be one of the single best vehicles available on sale today if not in the same conversation for the last 10 years. Whatever you want out of your truck it's likely you'll find all or some of it in this Ford but if for some reason you don't there are bigger, meaner, and more powerful options available from the Blue Oval. #fordmaverick #2026fordmaverick #maverick #maverickhybrid #2025fordmaverick #hybridawd #maverickhybridawd #awdmaverick #dailydriver #smalltruck #midsizetruck #hybridtruck #diyfriendly #maverickdiy #diyhybrid #awd #40mpg Here's why we don't talk about reliability much: And resale value Same thing:

I wish people would stop saying black plastic is less expensive to replace because, unless that piece of black plastic is completely separate, it just isn't. It is going to be sold to you as part of a larger, painted piece. That includes the entire front and rear bumpers, black plastic included. The only black plastic pieces there that might be replaceable on their own are the side skirts. If you're that concerned about having to replace body parts on your vehicle that black plastic is a selling feature for you, I'd suggest you reevaluate your driving techniques.
Regarding the interior, people who actually use their truck for truck stuff will appreciate that the interior is not lined in soft touch materials, leather, and expensive materials. Harder plastics tend to be more durable and easier to clean, which is important when you're working, carrying things and getting dirty.

compact pickup hybrid is secretly such a high demand segment nobody seems to realize, not even Ford Execs realized it, only for them to raise the price by nearly $8k within a few months of original launch is shameful. Was such a nice idea at low 20's. Now not so much, and that's before dealer markup. The dealers were already price gouging the Mav when it came out. Then Ford doubled down and priced gouged it themselves!
GM should have spent more time thinking of something instead of nearly 10, 000 lb EVs. Toyota has their hands full and can't even make enough Rav4 to meet demand. Honda should have made a smaller hybrid pickup, instead of med/full size pickup. A Rav4 variant pickup aka the Stout would kill in this market.

Well, I was interested until you said those dreaded three letters CVT. Not even an electronic CVT. Just a CVT. Which in my mind stands for counter valued transmission. In other words, JUNK. Ford uses the right size of motor to pair with the Hybrid system with the 2. 5L, though it's pretty low on HP and Torque. But the CVT simply isn't excusable. I don't care if they claim it means better mileage. I have been driving my 2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited now for nearly 5 years and it has over 88, 000 miles on it now. It has a 2. 0L 4 Cylinder paired with the Hybrid system and a 6 Speed Automatic Transmission, still gets over 50-55 MPG in the city. I wouldn't have even considered it had it been made with a CVT.

I have a 2025 XLT hybrid, AWD, w the 4k tow package. I don't have the power seat or 130v outlet. But I do have a sunroof and Black appearance package. It comes with 19 inch wheels and lower profile tire. So that improves handling with minimal fuel penalty. I installed a hard tonneau cover that allows me to use it like a sedan with a trunk. But I can fold and flip to access the bed when needed. Haven't towed yet. But I've loaded the bed fully. I've had it 11 months and have already put 37, 000 trouble free miles on it thus far. It's not perfect. But it's a great truck for the price.

I had a 2022 eco-boost XLT fully loaded and I loved it. I put nearly 60, 000 miles on it when the refresh happened in 2025 I opted to trade it in for a lariat hybrid with the towing package. I thought I was gonna miss the horsepower but I don’t at all. It’s got plenty. My only real complaint is because it uses a orbital gear system. There’s no shifting noises. When you give it the beans it’s just a drone other than that. It’s freaking awesome. I’m averaging about 37 miles per gallon and I’ve already put 23, 000 miles on it doing probably 80% highway 20% street.

I still can't believe Subaru hasn't entered this market with an outdoors/adventure themed small truck like the Baja they did before, based on the Outback chassis, but with their new Toyota-ish hybrid powertrain. Instead they're coming out with something like 4 new EVs that are almost certainly dead on arrival Huge strategic miss. There is clearly a market for these small, fuel-efficient yet utilitarian trucks, and it seems to me like there is probably a large amount of overlap between the Maverick buyer and the Subaru buyer.

Everyone gives the back seat of the maverick crap, but the crown victoria, a v8, full size sedan that was an icon of family vehicles, had only 1 inch more legroom in the back seat. Lincoln had to stretch the vehicle out by over a foot to make it appealing to livery services. So while you aren't fitting 5 adults on a work lunch, you are fitting the wife and 2 kids in that for the next 15 years. Then you just stick the older kid behind mom because her seat won't be all the way back

You neglected to mention the driving modes. Eco mode does increase mileage and the slippery helps in snow. After the worst winter southern New England has had in almost 40 years I was very pleased with my hybrid Maverick AWD. The mechanical AWD was frankly more effective than the Subaru I own. Mileage in the winter drops a lot. Last summer I was getting almost 50mpg in combined driving. Very impressed with my 2025 XL Maverick. It cost 30k delivered plus tax.

21: 30 You obviously hear that CVT kick in. There is no CVT. there is no belt and pulley transmission. If you're hearing a CVT, that is confusing. Marketing a planetary power split transmission as an eCVT was such a mistake. There is an engine/generator and a couple of electric motors: that's it. What you're hearing is the engine/generator running in its most efficient power band to generate electricity, not a CVT.

It looks like Ford has been very conservative with the 191 hp rating. Does this have a sport mode, shift paddles, or adjustable regen braking I saw the 115-ft stop from 60 mph, but how is the brake feel When you consider performance, drivability, and fuel economy, Ford comes darn close to Toyota. I have zero use for an open bed, but with no kids I would consider this vs. RAV4 and CR-V.

they're good because they have nobody competing in the same segment. Since Toyota is too busy to release the Stout. And Honda won't make a small version of a hybrid Ridgeline. Amazing because Ford didn't think people even wanted a compact hybrid pickup, only for them to stop production, then rerelease it 5k-8k higher than they originally priced it for, for the exact same truck.

Why bother mentioning the Santa Cruz when it's been discontinued They've already stopped building new ones and as soon as the current inventory is gone, so is the model. Probably because they had two flavors, both of which were bad. One with a good traditional automatic, but not enough power. And one with enough power, but a DCT that is neither smooth or reliable.

I love this car. I would love to see other manufacturers take a crack at the small hybrid truck segment.
I do wish Ford made a King cab version with a longer bed for those of us that know we don’t need 4 doors though. Not the biggest fan of the newer infotainment/climate controls either, but otherwise this is really a great truck for what it is.

I want a Lincoln maverick with all the luxury goodies. Yes it takes away from the cheap affordable truck, but imagine this with their 24 way seats and nicer interior, 4 corner air ride, 2. 7L ecoboost for the gas model and a 3. 3L v6 hybrid. I think they'd have an absolute gem on their hands.
reply

When I checked one out I liked a lot of things about it. Before ford bumped the price up it was a compelling truck, and the all plastic interior was easy to over look. Once I configured it the way I liked it I was nipping at Honda Ridgeline Black Edition territory.

Ford did delete a few things on the 26. Rear fold down arm rest gone. Passenger seat on the XLT went from 6 way manual adjust to 4 way. The rear sliding window doesn’t appear to be available. But still a good overall package for the reasons outlined.

Love my 25 xlt AWD hybrid with 4k tow package! I always say it’s the most truck for most people! Maverick is now the second best selling truck in the midsize and under category! Ford hit a home run with it!
reply

A lot of people are doing long commutes in the Maverick. Fuel efficiency is the reason that it’s so commonly used for commuting. This is the first time I’ve heard it said that it’s not comfortable
reply

Is this going to be sold alongside the new electric truck I feel like a 2nd generation Maverick will be ready for the 2028 model year and the new electric truck may be going on sale around the same time.
reply

I love my 25 Lariat it's got every option you can think of FORD did forget to tell you you're only getting the 40mpg in spring/summer months cold winter months I get 30mpg, still can't complain.
