Intel appeared on a recent episode of The Full Nerd in order to let us live benchmark the high end Core i9-12900HK laptop processor inside four fully equipped MSI GE76 Raiders. In this video Gordon lays all of the benchmark numbers out in easy to see charts, showing us our first look at expected performance once final units ship. Check out the full interview

From Cinebench R20 nT, if you just see the raw number, Inter is scoreING1476 points more than AMD which is a 28% performance gain, and from R23 Intel is scoring 2816 higher than AMD which is 19%, at the expense of 35% more power. Intel is aiming for max performance and building hype by showing their best-case scenario, while AMD is focusing more on balance. And balance is what keeps the laptops from becoming toaster. but this is proof that Intel is serious. I am interested in seeing the performance comparison on the same TDP

I was thoroughly surprised you didn't milk these few benchmarks for 30 minutes more. ffs. This could've been a 5 minute video. But no. You have to repeat yourself 20 times.
12900HK is good, but what's better is that companies started using liquid metal as interface material between chip and heatsink. That's a big big step up.

I think AMD din't want to push to far this year with all the chip problems out there. My asumption is that AMD 7k will beat intel and if intel brings something new as well at least amd will be equal to it. I wait for the day with amd 7k and a 3090 maybe TI and change the old rust I use now.

Doesn-t matter. As long as you can-t sustain the same performance on battery and get the laptop to last longer on battery. All you have is a Desktop PC that you can carry around everywhere but can-t use it if you can-t plug a charging cable.

Should I feel regret for purchasing my MSI GE76 i9 11980hk last november? i feel a lot of mixed emotions right now. Sigh, every time i buy PC stuff its always the worst Gen and the next gen is right around the corner and its so much better: /

Power consumption, thermals and battery life are very important in a laptop. Can you compare this with other laptops, otherwise this might as well be just be a desktop CPU in a laptop that gets hot and noisy when doing anything intensive.

I don't think you can give a balanced comparison when the ryzen only used 130 TGP GPU while the intel 12th gen used far higher TGP and DDR5. I'll probably would find other more trusted review/test than this one before purchase.
reply

DDR5 Ram, better cooling system, more gpu tgp, that adds up so that means no big leap in performance. That means ryzen has more performance difference compared to last gen. What you should have tested was battery life.

Booo, only 32GB of RAM. My 13 year Asus ROG G75VW has 32GB of RAM, a Samsung 2TB 980 and a Seagate 4TB HDD with a Core i7, little 2GB 660GTX GPU pushing a full HD 1920x1080 17. 3- screen, and thats from 2009!
