This has been my favorite episode yet, Just finished listening to it.
Here are my thoughts that no one asked for on this vid: D.
1) I cant place my finger on it, but Gordon was way funnier this episode.
2) I only recently built a gaming pc and before that, I only played games on console and with that, I can say, the only people who say they dont care about frame rate are the ones who havent gotten to experience how great anything above 30/60fps feels. I didn't realize how bad 30fps (not so much 60fps) was until I actually started playing on pc. HOWEVER, I think this matters more on the type of game you're playing. If Im paying anything that is atleast somewhat competitive in nature like lets say call of duty (just an example, not saying its super competitive) then I really love the way 60+ frames makes the feel and it makes it more fun to play. The higher the frame rate, the better. Now in a single player game, where I'm not going up against a real person, then the frame rate really didn't matter to me as much.
3) If they had multiple versions of the console, I would be happy. If they offered different versions where one had more storage or a bit better tech, then heck yeah, I wouldn't mind paying more.
4) Controllers are great, Fight me.
5) if you guys consider 2011 late, for entering the PC Scene, Then I have just completely missed the party because I only made my first pc a month ago.

I see the PS retailing for 600, tiers at least not from launch, maybe a 512gb ssd, possibly with an extra slot for another ssd, eventually versions with 1tb and more, cloud storage is probably a premium but not at launch.
The current tech should be great, as ryzen is high core count, speeds improve everything but cores and threads need to be coded for and we now know, developers are going to have to take advantage of cores, this ties to intel moving for chiplets, Intel is going to have to abandon the speed philosophy and embrace cores.
Stadia may become a success but it won't ever become good. Lag won't be solved because it is is currently physically impossible, unless the google server is right beside you, box to box is not a problem but over cable it won't work, even with buffers.
Amazon prime video is mediocre, I can't see them having the infrastructure, google sure.

I'd place my bets on them using a very small PCIE or like Optane style caching drive with a large sata SSD. I just can't see it being possible for them to put a 1TB PCIE 4 nvme drive in there alongside an 8 core Zen 2 chip with what I can only assume will be a 40-48CU Navi GPU without it ending up far too expensive. It just has to be a custom solution. I don't think there's any chance of being able to upgrade the CPU, there's no way this custom chip doesn't end up being a chiplet based APU. What we really need out of both consoles is proper Bluetooth headphone/speaker support, APTX would be really nice. As an Australian where in 2019 most peoples ADSL internet connection is only now being -upgraded- to VDSL and for some ungodly reason wireless towers I really have to hope and believe the future is not streaming and all digital, or beg google to come give us all FTTH.

gaming discussion:
How about a two tiered solution. An extremely fast NMVe drive that uses the PCIe4 protocol but with a max. capacity of 250GB and still a large HDD drive with 2TB.
When you load a game, a background thread copies all the data from the HDD into the NVMe memory. Most people play one game straight so the next time you start the game again, the OS looks on the NVMe drive if the game is already there and it can be booted right from there without any background task copying any more files.
If you start different games, the OS manages the NVMe storage and swap's out files when nevcessary.
A two tiered solution to me looks pretty reasonable because you can have the best of both worlds.
I don't think Sony will bring out 2 new SKU's. they have got the PS4 Pro as the cheaper console and then an even cheaper PS4.

Ok I lol'd hard, Gordon is right and here is why, PS5 still has to be budget minded PC does not and that simply means it has hard caps on what it's capabilities will be grant it you have optimizations but they only go say far and Microsoft and Sony can't resist proprietary hardware which is more expensive and will cause budget cuts elsewhere. Stadia has a network but it isn't last mile service which is where the problems lay and why it will never be a valid platform for gaming because last I checked fast lanes will be a thing under Pai's FCC. It's just a dream for those budget. indeed to be able to pay less and get more.

I knew it, seemed he had a bone to pick with Playstation, mentioned he would never own a PS about 30 times. It seemed to cloud his judgement.
Also for raytracing on consoles, they can do it depending on how much they want to sacrifice. They'd be coding for a common machine and can code to the metal just like past consoles getting the most out of them especially with tricks, smoke, and mirrors. Look at Last of Us on PS3, and Uncharted 2, beautiful looking games for such old hardware at the time. On PC a lot of things just gt brute forced, like current Minecraft path tracing on Java.

Everyone's opinions on the technology announcements revealed for the PS5 and if it could make it into the console from a cost perspective and how expensive it would be seem to be based on today's full retail pricing for individuals from Newegg or Amazon? You all need to start realising a term known as economics of scale!
Sony won't be paying full retail prices for the hardware they don't make themselves! Oh and Sony actually make SSD's! Shocker.

Also Sony has been letting games implement mouse/keyboard support in games since PS2 (Unreal Tournament, Final Fantasy XI, etc. PS3 has a lot of games with keyboard/mouse as well, and PS4 for sure with Paragon and Fortnite allowing M/KB since the start of both of those games, and FFXIV.

Can anyone explain what's the deal with Star Trek? I mean, I like Star Trek (all shows and movies, but I don't understand. what movie is discussed here? It wasn't clear at all. Is it the first one (1979? If so, why now? I am missing something, can someone explain, please?

Good god. Star Trek: The Motion Picture is one of those movies that was so bad, it almost destroyed the entire franchise. It's like Ghostbusters II or MIB II. They didn't attempt a sequel until most of the people who saw Part Deux died or forgot there was a sequel.
