Hi Chris, and everyone else on Youtube.. most of us love Linux for what it is.. I am an older Unix sysadmin migrating to Linux and getting my feet wet.. i don't see any problems in moving to Linux from Mac. The first thing i do on my mac is install homebrew and start using the command line.. and vmware fusion for all my Linux machines.
So i'm 100% sure that my next build will be a full Fedora or Centos machine.
i tried to convert my wife to Linux years ago.. two problems came up.. one was at school studying for her bachelor degree she had to use Windows as most of the tools were windows based so everyone in school was using windows. Second was here work i did manage to get here citrix working but the Linux implementation was buggy and required a lot of fiddling by me..if that was all i would be happy .. But alas using my Brother HL-3170CDW Laser color printer on Linux was to much trouble.. just installing a driver Brother supplied did not help.. so i needed to dive in to that but i gave up since even if i would get it to work the driver would not provide us with the same features we would get under windows like booklet printing and such..btw same issue on mac but that is printing without even having to install a driver .. yes i know mac os does that in the background.. i could get it to work under linux and in fact i'm going to do that for me when i switch but it's going to take sum time and that's my point..
to sum up.. Schools should stop using Windows sharing knowledge should not be done under a closed environment.
Also lot's of companies still use Windows instead of Linux that also bothers me and is a fact of life. i do like that you are so focal about Linux let's hope everyone watching this is also focal about Linux in schools and the work place.

I just switched to linux, its a pain in the ass to use, it doesnt do everything automatically like windows, it doesn't look sleek, it looks like highschool project, some distros as insanelly underdevelopped. Just trying to get the wifi dongle to work on linux, having to make, then install a package that had to be downloaded from github while having to move the entire pc near the router for hard wiring, then having to repeat the process after upgrade all over again because linux cant do it on its own....windows beats linux hands down with ease of use for basic users, looks, workflow... If you're just starting out with using a PC then it doesn't matter which OS you use but if you've been a windows user for 20yrs, going to Linux...is infuriating to the point you switch the PC off and walk away for couple of days. If i wasn't so set on changing, i would have dropped linux 5 days after trying it out

As soon as all the Windows only apps I run on the daily move over to Linux... you can bet your ass I'm moving over... Especially after the shitshow that happened after one of the updates on Win10 bricked the print spooler... meaning me (as a tech for a printer company) was tasked with guiding a bunch of people into uninstalling the update from an entire organization's Windows boxes. Which leaves me with a message to Microsoft... -STOP. VIRTUALISING. YOUR. GOD. DAMN. STRESS. TESTS. AND. USE. PHYSICAL. HARDWARE. AGAIN. GOD. DAMN. IT-
That said, the fact my home network has an ActiveDirectory domain that I log on with might make things a bit harder... unless Microsoft goes the UNIX route and ports ActiveDirectory fully onto their own flavour of Linux...

90% of all computer users, world-wide, use their computers for web surfing, web purchasing, on-line bill pay, word processing, photo galleries, music playlists. That is it. If you are using Windows or macOS for that, you are paying Microsoft and Apple to rip you off. Install Linux Mint and you will have all you need. Why don't people use Linux? Simple -- -Can I install iTunes and connect my iPhone?- When you tell them no, they run away. Idiots. Even Apple is getting rid of iTunes and who cares about iPhones -- they suck. I connect my Samsung Android to Linux Mint with no problem. I can drag and drop my photos and music to the S10 with no problem. Did that with an S7 too. Dump Microsoft and Apple products and get into the 21st Century.

I already banned Windows from my HD. Been using Kubuntu for years and haven't looked back except to see how self-destructive Windows gets. Asura seems way to invasive I don't think I will allow Asura in my apartment. using Kubuntu 19.10 now. I can't wait for Ubuntu 20.04 and flavors to come out. I read it's going to have the INVIDIA driver on it and a special installer! Canicol must have worked something big with NVIDIA. You should do a picie on Ubuntu 20.04 20.04 is in development now so don't install it as your regular system. I don't know what its state is so you might hose your data. WARNING: newbies should NEVER use a development version of Linux.

I never went past Win7..When I got my Dell 2321 laptop, it had Windows 8.1 on it, which I wiped in favor of win7. I downloaded wsus offline to have a permanent update for win7.. But as we all know, win7's support ends in 2020, and THAT'S why I decided to try Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2...LOVE the SPEED..and btw, ssd's is a WONDERFUL upgrade as well, even my win7 runs like lightning on it..AND you don't need oodles of ram, since your OS is basically installed on RAM..Games are smooth and fast.
SO, think linux And ssd if you want to revitalize old hardware..and get yourself exited about pc's again without breaking the bank. -

You nailed it Chris, linux totally puts the fun back in computing!
Re. the refurbishing angle, my first Linux desktop install was on a 1st gen MacBook. One day about five years after purchase, Gmail web client told me I had to update my browser to log in. My browser wouldn't update because OSX was out of date. But Apple wanted -$200 for the latest os update! After already having paid the Apple premium for the hardware! I was pissed; all I wanted to do was log into my Gmail. So I wiped the disk and installed Mint Xfce and it was like a whole new lease on life! The machine was ripping again! Never looked back.

I don't care who likes windoze or who likes linux. I just care about what works for me, does what I need it to do, gives me freedom, and doesn't cost me an arm a leg and a finger. So since 2010 in search of such a thing I installed crunchbang linux (what a shock that was for a former microstuff user!), then tried mint, stayed with it since then, and now use mx-linux as my daily driver. Linux helped me wean myself off of microwsoff, & I haven't touched the stuff in 8 years.

I am a Mac user. I really would like to switch to GNU+Linux but the usability is no match compared to what I have on the Mac. I been a Linux for many years but doing the same thing on Linux means more effort for the same thing and sometimes loosing data because of its nonsense behaviour. Linux on the desktop is going nowhere. -It is the year of Linux desktop!- No, it is not. For me, what ever it is Mac, Windows or Linux, it is all a lot of deception.

I do not get why Linux videos make so much out of their position relative to Windows [10], if you like Linux great, I like it too but I don't need to constantly say -Linux is doing better now and catching Windows (or MacOS)- Either Linux is good or it is not and it is good so stop comparing with Windows and MacOS. Goodness, can't folk just be satisfied with their OS for what it is without all the angst evident in these comparisons?
