Is Windows 10 Getting Rid of Offline Accounts? - Chris Titus Tech With Windows 10 1903 being out for several months we are seeing the trend of Microsoft pushing people onto online accounts. The offline account option has become cumbersome and hidden. In this video, I show the new setup process and what Microsoft is doing. Can you explain what settings to leave on in O&OShutup so we still get full security and windows defender updates? AND what the main settings are that give Microsoft our keystroke telemetry please...they are the main things in terms of privacy with Microsoft that make me really uncomfortable with Windows...at least that I-m aware of, mind you if anyone can hack Microsoft-s database of our telemetry like an Australian teenage hacker was doing (and got convicted of so he definitely succeeded with just two computers, a phone and hacking tools he downloaded online and used in his bedroom so imagine what professional hacking teams can do!) to steal 90gb of data out of Apples database then windows telemetry may be a massive security threat too
People like to compare the security of windows vs Mac vs Linux but few consider the vulnerability of Windows or Apple getting hacked and all their data on you being stolen and used against you

and they will turn this attitude to linux too. just watch.
the biggest problem with linux is that there are 10million ways of it and it isnt easy to -just use it- particularly if you want something more than a web/office install.the sheer amount of -you just open a terminal and......- makes linux users think it is friendly. it aint - particularly if you are a windwoes or casual user.
Microsoft are preying on this attitude. even to the point of adopting linux kernel to start taking over so they can charge subscriptions and setup single sign on privacy hax. sadly apple and google are doing the same, so if you want any online presence, you are going to have your info stolen under hidden eula requirements.
sigh. I only been waiting since 95 for a linux community to get it's poop in a pile.

Personally I have detested win10 ever since they started testing. I love win7 and it will stay on my desktop! I am finally giving in and ordering a laptop with win10 and plan on setting up with just a local account! We call our computers personal computers for a reason, we buy and pay for these computers for OUR personal use! Now if Microsoft wants to dictate how we use these machines, then I suggest they provide us with computers free of charge, then they can dictate all the want! In the meantime I plan on using this just like I did my win7 computer with MY software that I bought and paid for, no cloud necessary!

I've been running a version of Linux as my main OS since 2007. It has come a long way since then. I'm currently running Linux Mint 19.2. The overall experience is so much better than Windows. I couldn't even imagine actually paying for a Windows 10 license. What a waste of money. I do still keep a dual boot configuration set up with Windows 7 for the few old Windows legacy programs I use from time to time, but that need isn't often. When it comes time to build a new PC that Win 7 is no longer compatible with I'll probably keep the old desktop around for it, and just run Linux on the new box.

fun fact, you can skip the security questions entirely by setting a blank password and set the password after windows is fully set up. Also on new win10 laptops they even REMOVE the offline account option as long as you have an internet or wifi connection (meaning when you set up windows, leave the internet cable out of your desktop and dont connect to your wireless network when asked, as you will not be allowed to disconnect from it once connected!)
i actually experienced the latter on some new laptops today, yikes.

well, what's my opinion, you ask? Windows10 sucks and so does Microsoft. The ONLY reason I'm on Windows is because it's a simple way to use my software. If it was available for linux in a SIMPLE way, which would not require me to jump through hoops for a day or two or run VM or other adons, I would do it. As such, I will be on win7 until someone hacks it, and then I'll re-install it.... because that would take me less time and expense than dealing with Microsoft of VM...

Windows will soon turn your PC into a dumb terminal that you log into and then access all your stuff in 'The Cloud'. Kind of like a Chromebook, but much, much worse. If you're still using Windows 10, consider downgrading to 7 or 8 or moving to OS X (getting almost as bad as W10 if on real Apple hardware), or just go for Linux and wait until Proton, Vulkan and other quickly progressing tech takes hold and makes Windows and MS completely superfluous.

YES, after installing Win10 64 bit pro retail on 2 computers recently, the mountain of crap I have to avoid was massive. Then there was the looping around trying to get the Microsoft account working and when I got it installed, I had to de-crap- as much of the junk as possible to make the computers usable. These are retail versions, not OEM cheapies and you still have to shovel your way through mountains of junk to get it all going.

I set up a new windows home10 PC yesterday. I was expecting the worst things to happen. I pulled the router power cable from the wall and fired up the pc. when I got to the account page something unexpected happened. at the left bottom of the page was the option to create an offline account. I didn't have to type in a fake email address or click the back arrow. How easy was that!? maybe microsoft felt the heat and relaxed a bit.
