Building a Chicken Run with a Breezeway to a Stone Henhouse (coop)

For reasons you'll see in a future video, I sloped the roof on the stone chicken coop towards the outdoor run, but with the heavy snowfall we receive each winter, the snow load would crush the roof trusses and wire screening on the top of the run. To overcome this, I built a heavy duty breezeway between the henhouse and the run and now the chickens have decided that's their favorite place to hang out. I think he’s losing focus ah chicken run and the chicken guard for that matter what a headache why would he want to rely on that as though he wants to rely on parts it’s not hard by hand as he does have hands to open a door the size of the chicken and close it end of day. And the outdoor coop is big it’ll require bigger repairs. A small outdoor area directly from the coop (no run) is more than enough when they can roam freely outside of the coop/outdoor area most days. Unless he thinks his chickens will run off but that’s mystifying lol

You need a pair of simple post hole jabbers or diggers. Would almost be easier than horsing that post hole driller around. Quickcrete just pack around post, don't fill to top, set posts dry, it works good. My cabin and both deck done that way.
Old timer told me how he set hedge posts when he was a young man, 18 or 19, in ag lime. 60 years later they were worn out, pulled them with much effort, ag lime had set up like concrete.

Well since you care so well for Cali, this sophisticated a construction for a coop should not surprise us so much! Cali seems to believe you've built her a puzzle to solve so she can have some fresh chicken treats. Was curious what plants you have growing in the run area Are they hardy enough to stand the chickens curious nature to peck at everything Were those plants selected for a food supplemental reason

Always nice to see a bit of cash splashed on a job, and that job done properly and to last a good few decades. There’s too much frivolous spend and waste on things that are built shoddily and only last a year. Of course this is done to encourage the sheeple to buy more stuff’ yet at the same time the MSM preaches to the gullible about their green agenda

Hello Shawn. That is the most beautiful, intelligent chicken coop and run I have ever seen! Wow! Your gonna love taking care of them and gathering eggs! Calli is doing pretty good for being such a great pheasant hunter. The off grid homestead with the boss has great garden ideas too. You guys could be brothers!

Even the Clampets never had it this good! No cemment pond but It wouldnt suprise me if its not in your plans after the sauna.
Granny's already tickled pink over the chicken coop.
Seriously great work the things you've accomplished over the years I've been watching is mind boggling.

Have you consider how they use to seal all lumber back in the day. Last year we discovered that pine sap is not only good for sealing wood 100% but that it can even make wood waterproof as well and their is an extensive list of uses from the pine sap. Hope this helps you ouy

Finally, after all this time. your chickens have come home to roost, lol.
We don't need chickens where we live. The villages emblem/crest is a chicken and half our neighbours have chickens.
It's good to see you're actually prepping for what may come in the very near future.

My dog still gets excited and jumps at the chicken enclosure. We have a few chicks and she enjoys watching them. I just wish she wouldn't lick her chops so much. I decided to call them baby hens and avoid the word. chicken. cause pretty sure she knows that chicken is good!

21: 20 Ah you bugger. In the 3 -4 years I've been watching you that's the first time I've ever heard you verbally express frustration while building something. I'm not being critical because I swear like a sailor whenever my carpentry goes awry, which is often.

With a layout like that, I'd imagine there being be a few humans who wouldn't mind being chickens for a summer, just to hang out there. Poor Cali. She's thinking, My whole life has been get the bird, now it's don't get the bird. What to do

Shawn, I have chickens for years, as well as black bears, coyotes, fox, and more and I recommend that you install the same wire on the outside window over the breezeway or the outcome will not be good from my own experience. Looks awesome!

Perhaps you could turn a portion of that fine chicken complex into an air B&B I think it would be 5 star compared to some. No doubt I see Very Happy Chickens! Kind Thanks, Many Blessings and Many Eggs! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

I've been watching you for years Shawn and that's the first time I've seen you using power tools, not a criticism by the way. Coop is looking really well. Take care and best wishes to your family. Regards Jim UK.

Beautifully done. Beautiful chicken coop. Cali is daydreaming chicken legs. she is so funny. Thanks for sharing. Homestead journey has been educational, and definitely a delight to see the progress.

I’m worried about predators digging under the fence to get into the run. I have great confidence that you have prepared for this but would feel better if you would offer a detailed explanation.
