My goal is self reliant, debt free living at the log cabin, and to be successful l I need to learn how to live off the land, to use the forest sustainably to provide food, fuel and building materials and to make sacrifices today for my long term security and survival. In this episode, I delve deeper into the process of making maple syrup from trees and I cook two meals utilizing some of the syrup - a one-pound cheeseburger on homemade sourdough bread with maple caramelized onions for dinner and French toast and bacon with hot maple syrup for breakfast. Cali, my golden retriever, does not leave my side all day. We walk along the river and she jumps in and swims and retrieves sticks for over an hour, oblivious to the freezing temperatures. We collect more balsam fir poles for the log furniture I'm making (next episode) before another snow storm rolls in. The days are comfortable, but the end of the video shows the storm moving in, eventually dumping almost a foot of fresh snow on the cabin. Next week's video shows a renewed winter wonderland even though it's spring

Being locked down like Ad-Seg so to say Ive been going over some old video of yours Shawn, and Ill tell you the video sound quality now has surpassed your first videos 2015-16. Just a simple thanks (Mahalo) for the journey, I will get that cabin Ive always wanted probably a prefab but itll be all mine. Thatll give me time to learn how to build a log visitors cabin. I really wanted to make the cabin an AirBnb site for visitors who like the outdoors still might. But you gotta have money to make money and to live a self sustainable lifestyle. Saving those pennies and making the right investments, also thoughts of retirement savings through my investments. Everything takes time. Take care Kekoa James. Your boy Kekoa.

While watching some of your other videos, I wondered if you had and use an ulu knife, and I saw in this video that you do! What a wonderful tool - I got mine from a trip to visit relatives in Alaska many years ago. I suppose that's where you got yours, as well. An all 'round great video as always!

Is there a way you can improve your maple syrup yield by capturing condensate from what's being evaporating? I would assume that's just water vapor but curious you mentioning sticky vapor. Perhaps not worth the effort?

I'm so glad to see you are like me with french toast. You let all that liquid soak in instead of just giving it a little dip. Mine ends up using 60% of an egg or more per round of standard pan loaf. But I like mine savoury.

I like what you said at the end about your self reflections. Well, said. A man with wisdom. Also, the food looks delicious! Have to love cooking in a cabin on cast iron. Can't beat it.

Tap some birch, not 25 trees. Just do a few and drink the sap. Dont forget to re sealed your tap holes.
The vitamin and minerals in it is so good for you! It tastes good too!

Being debt free is a basic essential of life and freedom. It means owning property clear title which is a bit of a fantasy these days for most young couples.
