A Quiet Walk Through my Young Food Forest, Early June

Late spring in my four year old food forest and vegetable garden. This area of my property was dense forest when I started clearing it for food production in 2020. I used logs, branches and leaves from the trees I cut down to create wood chips, compost and hugelkultur beds and then planted fruit trees, berry bushes and annual vegetables. This year, I'll be harvesting fruit from the trees for the first time and the berry bushes will provide bountiful harvests like they have for the past two years. Wow Shawn you have your own piece of paradise. The lovely sounds of nature, the beautiful colours from your labour of love is very impressive. The music you put to that video the combination was so beautiful it made me emotional. I realize that you have put a tremendous amount of work in order to get where you are. You certainly have accomplished a remarkable amount of work all by yourself, one can’t help admire you for that. You didn’t take the easy way of doing things either all the old fashioned way. Cali was all cheering things out. She didn’t seem interested in playing today she was sniffing the air checking things out. You videos are always good this one was extra special it was like a beautiful painting that left me in awe of all you have accomplished in a short period of time. Thank you for sharing.

About 20 years ago my wife and I bought 40 acres of land that was nothing but grazing land for cattle. There were not trees, no plants and birds and no other creatures. We built a house and planted trees and flowers and what happened, the birds came, the frogs came, the snakes came and many other creatures came to live with us. We enjoy sitting on our porch and listening to all the birds singing and the humming birds flying about. Nature is so wonderful and enjoyable. We wouldn't give up this life to live in the city again.

I planted red, black and white currants last year! Got a few currants this year! Red was wonderful but black currants taste, not so much!
Grapes vines are loaded this year more than any year since I planted them! Had a great plum harvest till the squirrels and bird eat them! Been a wet year here in eastern Missouri! Fruit trees and berries are really doing good! Garden here too is doing out standing!
Looks like yours is doing great!

What has happened to the Shawn James of old. . you’re content is not what it once was. you’ve stopped eating the staples of everyone’s diet and your looking for ways to dispose of what you’ve grown you say it’s your wife’s research, but don’t you have an opinion if your own these veggies have kept people alive for millennia and they’re healthy!
If you’re sick of making videos just say so and move on.

There are so many humans that do not see the beauty of creation on this planet. The natural world fills me up with joy and wonder as I gaze at the magnificence! There are those that are hell bent on destroying this and gives me solace that there are those like you and your family that do see. Thank you for sharing your perspective and dedication to filling the creative effort!

Slowed the video down to watch youlook at that paw paw tree, which i was quite unfamiliar with. Looked it up online. Now i want some! Apparently you need both male and female trees to get fruits. At $195 a pop for the well-established tree you bought, I’ll probably start with cheaper (smaller) seedlings. Really like the diversity of your garden.

Honest question and perhaps a silly one but, do you keep bees and/or have you considered keeping any bees I'm no outdoor survivalist type nor a beekeeper myself but I'd imagine they would help with pollination and help sustain a vital part of the ecosystem. Plus they are little friends.

This was really nice, some beautiful shots paired with the calming sounds of nature. I also find the sound of you walking on the ground weirdly relaxing lol, sounds crunchy in a good way idk. Love that you’re still experimenting with different video styles. Thank you for the upload: )

Nice peaceful walk thru the food forest Shawn. I recognized the comfrey and was curious what type it was. If your ever get a chance to do this again, could you put the names of each plant in the vid Must very peaceful in the early evenings with those birds. Thanks for sharing.

I just watched a video where someone was teaching about Oyster Shell Flour and that stuff raises the PH in soil. They used it in Acidic Peat Moss. I don't know if you need that info or not. I don't remember how you remedy your acidic issues. Have a good weekend man.

Your efforts are bearing fruits, it beautiful that you show how easy it can be done! But I guess that mother nature is just that! the lesser plants just need to get started, and have the enviroment and proper nuetriants to EXCEL, well done wth your efforts.

Those bees look like boring wood bees!
I found it interesting the flower and bees can let the bees know there is pollen by the electro static difference between bee and pollen! No pollen, the bee knows not to go to that flower. Pretty interesting!

Another Beautiful Video! All is looking good and flourishing! The size of some of those bumble bees are massive! Loved the cluster of butterflies! This video caught me off guide. I usually see your videos come out on Friday’s.

Why do people want to live in the cities When there's so much serenity in the woods So irenic and tranquil. It reminds me of the most powerful memories of my life. And I wouldn't share that with anyone.

Thank you for a slice of peace and tranquility. I love the bees floating from one open flower to the next. Please expect a cute little cuddle bee delivery for you and D ---> June 25 through July 12. : -)

I had a pollinator flower in my garden last year. They reseeded, coming up this year, too. Watch out what pollinator you sow. Mine are taking over, volunteering everywhere, four feet tall!

Good time of year here in Ontario to enjoy the bush. very lush and green, a little quieter in the country towns as the kids are still in school and npt too hot prior to the high summer heat
