THAT is amazing. I was totally glued to every second of this one. I love them all but this one really had me hooked. There was SO much great stuff to see and learn here. I just printed out a list of your URL's and especially the main ones for you and Emily for a friend is interested in the homesteading idea of life. I think he will learn a lot from here. I am totally captured by your content. Even going back through some old ones, I surprise myself when I see I have already viewed and liked that one, (second views are just as good as first ones, even with deja vu) Thank you so much Shawn for such outstanding quality content and great workmanship. I believe your door is bear proof, bullet proof, and looks fabulous to boot. And I LOVE the idea that you are doing it all without a total supply of power tools, support, and equipment from ANY company! And I am really thankful that you have been safe and healthy this whole time, Please STAY safe! Blessings to you and yours. thanks again for all your work and commitment.

Looks good. Some concerns: Before snow flies; I would make metal flashing for the areas where the roof joins the roof - Regardless of waiting on your metal roof panel delivery. The siding fit is tight - My concern is where siding boards meet logs and log swelling / shrinkage. To each their own: The use of birch bark on the inside of the door is good looking and helps to seal the door, but it can be a fire hazard although fire should be nowhere near that door. Still this is a working (often utilized) door for the cabin's nature activity floor. I understand this area would be intentionally kept cooler than the rest of the cabin by choice and should be. Will you be treating (preservative) the siding or relying on the burn? It's been my experience that the burn you provided may be on the surface only. Overall, your work and progress get an A. Always enjoy the videos. Hope Emily and you all have had an awesome September / on coming Fall season so far. (JF)

The screw-jacks for adjusting the upright logs for warping or shrinkage is interesting. And reminds of a visit to an Elizabethan grand home on the Welsh border. Because the family that owned it published car magazines it was opened for our old car tour. While intact no one was living in it. The main hall was large and the huge fireplace had a log burning in it. Our hostess said that the refrectory table originally on the dias had been taken by neighbors a couple of hundred years ago. A new one had been made. Upstairs of this was the equivalent sized hall but with a very wavy floor. I asked if it took more than 400 years for the warping due to the beams shrinking. The answer was only about 7 or 8 years. The carpenters could only work the oak beams when the wood was green--thus the almost immediate shrinkage.

Looking great, hope everyone is doing well. That is shaping up to be an amazing property, I'm happy for you. I bought my property in michigan a little too close to a major river so im building a cabin and a few fruit trees and farden area to pass it along and flip those proceeds to something at least a mile from a river or public access lake. While being 400 meters from the rivervis convenient it means people are still a little closer than id prefer

years ago we had a dog that chased rocks. One of the pitchers for the Atlanta Braves came to visit our neighbor and was throwing rocks for him. The neighbor told him. he's bringing back the same rock. So the pitcher, not believing him, marked the rock with a pocket knife and threw it for all he was worth. The dog was gone for quite a while and came back with the same rock. The pitcher was amazed to say the least.

When I first started watching you build that door ( 1 ply ) I thought wow I hope it's bearproof and then at the end I realized it's not only bearproof it's bulletproof.
I just have to thank you for all your time and effort you put into your videos, you must have hours and hours of camera setup time alone, and then hours of editing, once again thank you for your commitment.

Epic video. Your journey is so memorable on so many levels. Been watching you for several years and you never cease to amaze, inform and enjoy in all you do. An inspiration. Question. How much time and how often do you spend sharpening your tools, especially curious in this episode because the amount of time you use your handsaw?

Wow! what a great episode that was, I was stuck on every moment couldn't get up to go get my second cup of coffee until it ended. loved it, absolutely loved it Cali did too, she loved her dinner. The little Minor Details, to that back door, to the cutting up of the vegetables and putting them on the fire was really interesting.

Every time you pop up with a new video I get so exited because I really want to see the progress you're making and at the same time I'm dredding the moment you're cabin is finished because I don't want this journey to end! Thank you for taking us along with you.

The things I've learned while burning my own boards;
1. After burning my fingers a million times lighting the weed torch, I now use my hand torch for a quick light.
2. You never can have enough propane on hand. Double what you think you need.

Really really enjoyed seeing one 'smaller' project seen through in a longer form video. Watching you refine your process and optimizing it as you went along was really cool. Obviously more of a pain to edit but really enjoyable to watch.

Lay the boards on wet ground and heat them on one side only. They can bend. And the moisture will remain inside. You could warm the ground with a burner, or put them on two sticks and fry them on both sides to protect against bugs

Loved this episode, it's coming along beautifully and not too soon either as fall has arrived right on queue and we are expecting the first frost tonight. What an accomplishment so far you should be so proud of yourself.
