Building a permaculture food forest by hand in the Canadian wilderness. Sharon: I think gardening would be a natural progression of self reliance. Not knocking people who survive off donations - this world would be better if we all helped each other - but I can't call it depending on self. You are not living in the wilderness part time where you can bring in a few groceries for a few days and living means eating. You are living life on your terms, taking care of your family which you obviously love (and they love you) and taking their needs into consideration. I think 50 or 100 years from now some young dude or dudette is going to study your life and think. wow, just wow, what a life! Heck, many of us already are learning and dreaming because of you. I've watched his videos. but this guy is just not really my thing lol.
He got lucky, and sort of got rich filming YT videos lol.
He built a brand I guess, kind of like the Kardashians.
I get it. people like to watch him doing work and not talking, there is something therapeutic in watching someone else do what you are incapable of doing. because somehow they know that they will never go out and do what he did. Buying most of your groceries at the grocery store. then hunting and fishing as your hobby. is what millions maybe billions of people already do.
I hope the guy is happy, but he is not my dude. Paddling a canoe is just not that fun for me.

Inspiring stuff! I sure can relate with the weather/climate conditions being here in central Finland. I was wondering - although you've explained the locations etc. - if you have or could sketch your forest garden and maybe even all your facilities to have a better idea of the surroundings. Would be really interesting to see how you have set up everything, and even how the stream etc. are located. Thank you for the great videos and good luck with everything!

Hi, first of all, impressive work! Just questions for my reflection really - could you explain how you make sure all this tree cutting is sustainable? Do you plant more than you cut? Do you re-plant the same type of trees etc? Do you make sure you don't affect the habitat of the animals there - if so, how? That will be a very interesting video to see! :) Thanks and good luck!

Sure hope that garden works. I thought everyone knew that up there is a very short growing season and you pretty much need a high hoop type greenhouse. With all the trees you have, could have used logs to make your raised beds, they hold moisture better and replenish the earth as they slowly breakdown. Using cedar for instant helps deter bugs.

Im glad to see your putting up deer fence! Pretty hard to defend a garden from wild life!
Still waiting to see your under ground food storage!
Have one question! Why have you not thought of micro hydro power generation?
Solar is great but 4-500 watts would help you out immensely! It appears you have fall creek water quite close!

4B you say? I'm in Finland, same growing zone. Finally, a farmer as North as I am. I bought my own land this summer, been prepping it for next spring. As soon as spring comes, I'm gonna have my neighbor help me with digging and installing a well, after which it's time to get sheep.

Hey Mr. James--I read another person's comment about voiceovers and agree that a rolling commentary on what you are doing and why would be really educational and helpful to those of use who are greenfoot/feet and are looking for the 'why' behind things. Thanks in advance.
