Hi Danielle! You’ve inspired me to mix cut flower production with personal ornamental enjoyment, so thank you. One of the secrets to success I think is using flowers that are supposed to fully or almost fully open before you harvest them, like dahlias, zinnias, ranunculus, anemones, yarrow, basil and some umbellifers, and others. That way, you get some color before you cut. If you only grew flowers like tulips and daffs that really you ought to cut before they open to give the customer the maximum vase life, then your yard wouldn’t show color. I know some flowers should also be cut early before any pollinators reach them as another way to extend vase lifeagain, these wouldn’t give you any color to enjoy. Are there other varieties that you think should ripen in place before you cut, besides the ones I mentioned, that you enjoy and then cut

Hi Danielle you have done a wonderful job placing the infrastructure to a truly beautiful, relaxing and productive garden! I believe you have found the balance that you can enjoy the best of both worlds! And in the future if you choose to stop selling your flowers you can still bless others at nursing homes and other community related outreaches that give the beauty you are blessed with to others who would otherwise never have the opportunity! I have been blessed to do that and I can’t even express the joy it has given me! Peace and blessings!

Another great video, jam packed with great ideas, information, and pretty views of your garden rooms. It’s true that having flowers nearby can lift your spirits. Even when I’m surrounded by chaos, seeing a small vase of flowers, or even one stem in a jar on the windowsill, helps me to reset and put things into perspective. Weeding a bed has the same effect! Thanks, Danielle!

Hi Danielle! This was one of my favorite videos! I too struggle with cutting flowers for my home and friends and then having my landscape a vision of green, with no flowers! Over the years I have built the bones of my landscape to support my aesthetic and have a separate cutting garden. I do surround my cutting gardens with more manicured gardens. A balance it surely is!

I love your garden design description. You have a beautiful garden that is apart of your yard and your raised beds add another ever changing depth to your permanent landscape. It’s works beautifully!
I wish you continued success with the flower stand and can’t wait to see the photos of the garden this summer. It will be beautiful!

A beautiful video with beautiful message. My 3 yr old grandson went through my yard on Easter and brought me a surprise bouquet of tulips. All the guests were like OH NO! It was adorable, as he just broke them off with his fist at about 2 inches. I put them in a very short vase and I hope he remembers the tulip bouquet day forever.

Thanks for sharing how to do dry storage! That will come in handy for prolonging the enjoyment, and to harvest some when heavy storms threaten.
With you as inspiration, I planted a bag of tulips in the raised bed garden this year, just for cutting, as I always hesitate to cut those in my landscape.

I love th influence family can have on appreciating a garden, whatever its purpose is! Half the fun is just seeing the initial flowering from bare winter ground. Love the idea of spreading the joy to your community by cutting flowers and giving them away! :)

Do you recut the daffs when you take them out of the fridge Also I have seen others pull the flowers from the end of the stem rather then then cutting them when picking. Hav3 you tried that and if so noticed any difference. Love your flowers stand.

Lovely story about your flowers and your Grandmother. I’m sure you know she was a great example but you will write your own story and legacy. Hope you have a successful year selling your flowers!

Mal Robbins You didnt need that unqualified scammer to tell you about the beauty of gardening. You too hung up on your magazine photo shoot! Come back to your original content.

But what about dealing with the spent foliage Take us on that part of the journey when it is the main landscape. In the raised bed, are you just growing bulbs

I feel like you have married the two worlds of cut flowers and beautiful landscape! Most definitely and you have intentionally thought everything out!

I’ve never dry stored the daffs, I’ll give it a try. We also pull them at the base instead of using snips, we get longer stems that way. Happy Spring

People should be standing in line for her flowers at any time of the year! I would be there every week and waiting in anticipation to see her creations.

Your words are so inspiring! I absolutely think you can blend the two types of gardens. And I’d say you and your garden are the proof!
