In the log cabin build, one of the few things I didn’t make entirely with hand tools was the lumber for the roof the rafters and battens. This time, with the outdoor kitchen project, I want to challenge myself by doing every part by hand, including the lumber. But how do you actually do that I’ve been experimenting with different methods and this one seemed like the most effective. The pit saw was certainly hard to come by, but thankfully Nils Ögren helped me out by forging a handle for it. Sawing the boards wasn’t particularly hard, the tricky part was sawing straight, as you probably noticed. But my editor Stevie and I got better at it over time. The sawdust wasn’t really a problem either, as long as you had the right angle. If you have experience with this or know a better technique, let me know in the comments I’m figuring this out as I go! My own hand made products! Check them out here: www. grankvist-outdoors. com I hand-craft all these wooden products myself. I can only make a few at a time, so you have to be first to buy one when a new batch is released. They are all made from hard nordic oak, making them extremely durable, holding up for a lifetime of abuse. I was told that my dream of selling handmade products wouldn’t work in today's world where everything is mass produced. I want to prove them wrong. My goal is to expand into other handmade products eventually. Making a series of lifetime quality handmade goods. Breaking free from mass production, supporting our environment. As an experienced cook of long standing, I still have difficulty slicing a tomato uniformly. Ya gotta give Erik credit for this precision of eye and hand talent which is clearly evident. What a remarkable man he is, to be sure.

Erik, please ALWAYS wear safety equipment. Even simple shoes if not steel toed heavy leather boots. My dad lost part of his foot that way, when his foot got caught under a lawn mower. Please be careful, bro. Blessings

All this work for 5 planks and a bottle of tree juice. Makes you really appreciate what you have when you work so hard for it.
