All Logs Peeled for Off Grid Log Cabin! 12 - One Man Traditional Log Cabin series Princess: The trick with online, is to know when to bail - no pun intended lol. There comes a turning point when the money, the fame, become a block to creativity and initiative, and personal identity. Be careful. You have good judgment. Don't lean on the filming for us to much ok. We love it, it's inspiring. Sometimes doing a book is better than online. Don't forget, despite the lessons - this is the internet, public. Public has a way of swallowing up your life, your identity. I'm not a cynic, I love old things, I'm popular and I'm creative, but my parents taught me same as you, that nothing comes properly without hard work. You do that. There'll come a time if it hasn't already when you'll feel like you are doing it for the internet, serving us. That is when it's turned. It should be we are watching you and your work and you are important, ok. In a good hard work sense way, not a you're God way, because we know you're not God. What you're doing is powerful. Guard it, and one before too late, get off the internet. Love Tamara. A Mum of 5 and piano teacher.

Man you are an amazing kid though by the time you finish your log cabin I will no longer be able to call you a kid as you will be a man and will have earned the title. God knows, i wish i had known you when i was growing up. Im at the age now that i would just be getting in your way, lol. Take pride in what you are doing and let nothing get in your way or stop you. If you were my son I would be so proud of you and would be out there with you every day (getting in the way, lol. I hope your family is proud of you, as they should be and please keep up the videos so i can follow along with you on this wonderful journey.

I used to be a little soyboy at age of 19 when I decided to do something similar. But it was more of a treehouse/log cabin. I took down spruce trees with axe and handsaw only and worked 16 hours a day but i did so slowly.
Its almost finished but to actually do that i would have to quit my current job.
It completely changes your mindset if you do something like that yourself, its the biggest responsibility you can take. It'll turn you a desireable man for the entire society.
Makes me want to quit my job and return to woods.

There's something very calming about your films, just the sound of the tools on the wood and the birds singing in the background and the wind in the trees. You show remarkable perseverance and skill in constructing a log cabin all by yourself. Very few people have such patience and dedication. I wonder if you will live in the cabin when it is finished? Or will it be used for occasional visits and as a base for trips into the surrounding forest?

100 and 200 years ago those log peelings were used for wall insulation in Newfoundland. I know, that is the only insulation in the outer walls of my house there, that and a rough sawn 4X4, just a log sawn flat on two sides, the bark still on the other two sides, every 14 to 16 inches for each stud. They built them thick and tough. Hurricane force winds are normal, several times every year.

I learned the drawknife as a young man of twenty skinning poles for a tipi and then used a froe to split shingles for my first house. Became a carpenter/builder and would not change a thing about the skills I learned. You are an inspiration. I wish I could be a helper on your project. Now I am 72 and just completed my last house. Keep up the great work.

Who needs a gym if you have a cabin to build haha. Also you're really inspiring me to build my own log cabin aswell, that's what I'm planning to do after highschool. My country has a universtity that teaches traditional log house building too, might go study there.
Great job!

Inspirational! I hope you dont listen to people telling you to take the easy way. Hard work is not your enemy. I assume you have a mentor, or even multiple. You are a credit to them. I am very interested in your story and theirs. Perhaps you could tell us history sometime.

I peeled logs this eavenig. Got 4 done and one started. It's a chore.
That pine looks way easier than the dead ash I cut down and stripped. Wow.
Awesome you can lift them. I have to use a tractor because I'm definitely not using the same kind of wood.
Good shot

By the way, your filming is artistic and professional. Filming and photography are other avenues for you for work, just not online too much ok. I know it's an online world today, but that's our society's downfall.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. However i do have one question. What is the reason for peeling off the bark? Is it that the bark attracts insects? Or is purely just for looks? Great Job Erik!
reply

Erik, nothing like the feeling of shaving off great ribbons of bark from a green tree! Nice images! Its not that the man is too weak, it is that the log is too heavy, what about a farm tractor?
reply

Using only the resourses which your ancestors had, ie: those straight trees, and hand tools (Axes, drawknives/spokeshaves etc) made from Sweden's iron mines reminds me to admire your techniques.
reply

No only is he building a cabin with basic tools, don't forget to notice all the effort it takes to produce the video. Lots of camera angles, lots of time editing, etc. Hats off to him!
reply

Archimedes provides the solution. Erik provides the muscle power.
This location in Sweden looks like my homeland of Scotland - but it's too wet here for log cabins!

reply

Though project, working alone but little by little progress make him inspired to do more. Very interesting to watch, love log house too. :

7: 45 I was like. What! He speaks! Of course it's in text. Lol. Love the series thus far. Enjoy the hard work - no frazzles! Well done!
reply

really wish you hadn't found the slow-motion feature on your editing software. Great work by the way. You make me feel very lazy.
reply

I like you here - when it's just you and your work and nature, and we are just onlookers. Doesn't get much better than this.
reply

You are so clever. I like the color your cabin has become with weather exposure, are these spruce trees that you are using?
reply

When everyone is next to you livin off grid, you will not be off gridd anymore. The cumbaia will stop short in no time.
reply

Wow. You are one amazing hard working young man. Good for you. I hope it all turns our great.
I wince just watching.

That's a lot of logs and work. It's nice watching you've able to do it all by yourself. I would like to help.
