Ancient Wood Preserving Technique For Log Cabin Pia: Great video! My understanding is that fire treating wood is a traditional way of building around the Nordics too, at least here in Finland it's been traditionally done in construction. Also for example hay spits and telephone poles have been seasoned in this way, so they would last in harsh conditions for many decades. I've seen this done with a blowtorch in a house project, not as hard core as building a fire like you've done.

Thanks for posting your experience. I thought it was funny how much you black-faced for the effect of washing it all off in the pond. Isn't it a good job we have access to saw mills, DIY shops and modern convenience stores and supermarkets for all our needs before TSHTF! I also noticed how you were getting in those 'product placement' shots into this video, nice. Do they pay you much?

Hello Erik. I love watching your videos they are very educational they teaches us how to learn things we have never tried doing or building before. Living out in the very quiet area is very appealing to me. You can create or build things without neighbors calling a police on you because of the work noises and the little smoke of fire in your yard. Thank you for sharing your videos.

Does charring wood help preserve it? Especially when u start with dead trees? I have my doubts. Certain species do have more rot resistance. Cedar, cypress, locust, White oak. i hear locust is very good but is it that common. it was used for fence posts a lot. design protects wood. wide overhangs and height above the ground limit splashback.

Fantastic video! LOVE it! Also, Sorry but around 4: 51. you seem to have a lot of soot on your face. Many people, I think, don't realize that the lungs, once they have breathed in small particles have no way to expel stuff like the soot out. Here after, it would be so great if you would consider wearing something to protect yourself.

I really love your cabin and am watching it for the second time. You have a lot of talent and do beautiful work. You are also incredibly hard working. However, how many baths do you have to take on film? I, for one, assume you take fairly regular baths. I would prefer not to watch all of them in order to see your cabin progress.

John 17: 22-23
King James Version
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

I think I understand the theory behind the charred wood. You use green or freshly fallen tree wood. Burning one side seals in the wood with its own sap, on one side, gives it rich coloring and an antique patina and dries or cures the board thoroughly.

I've been thoroughly enjoying watching this guy, but this wood burning technique would be the straw that broke the camels back for me. Really determined guy, well done. I'm so jealous. It's not the end result it's the journey

I hope in the future you will consider protecting your lungs from all that soot! Absolutely phenomenal work as always: ) I've really enjoyed watching all these videos so far. I'm dreaming of my own cabin now.

Im completely new to all of this and I was just wondering what is the reasoning behind doing this? Does it stop the wood from rotting? Would I have to do this if I were to try and build something like this?

You are a very talented lad, my friend. Where did you learn how to build a cabin? You have to be in your early twenties, and you are very skilled.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Felix

Your burning it to much its loosing its strength your only suppose to close in the wood fibers by heating enough to draw sap up and harden not burn it several layers
