Prepping Timber Logs for Log Cabin 3. 0 -One Man Traditional Log Cabin series Peter: Sitting on a log, sliding along peeling bark. I have spent More Hours doing just that than I care to think about. You're just coming out of high school and starting into life with this project - I retired at age 60 from a desk job in New York City, sold my suburban New Jersey home and moved to twenty acres of woodland in Michigan, where I am building our new house, timber frame with strawbale infill, using lumber I'm harvesting from our woodland. I do use a chainsaw, but an enormous amount of hand tool work has gone into our projects as well. So you and I are doing similar things at opposite ends of life; ) I wish you all the best.

its a real pleasure to watch some raw talent grow - and no speaking, no music, just some wood chipping and the occasional birds twittering, its like we are there with you in spirit - i could watch this for hours - wishing you luck with the project - wish i was as fortunate to do this myself, your very privileged young Erik

I am totally addicted to your videos. Incredible work. I've never seen anything like what you are doing. I can't believe, however, that you are not using gloves. A close up of your palms would be very rewarding to me. I am so glad that you recorded all of your work.

Thank you for sharing your amazing adventure with us. And thank you for not corrupting it with music it is so nice and peaceful watching this and listening to you just work the wood. It sounds so nice you can almost smell it. Best Regards Connie from Alberta Canada

Good job, Erik. You sure are working hard, and you make those logs so clean, I have not seen any other log house builder doing this clean job! Keep it up, watching you closely=. Ps. your hammer will be there, before spring; o) Nice, and big. ;o)

what a peaceful task - gives you time to reflect on life and the challenge you have given yourself - I am so impressed, and a bit jealous. Just starting to watch your journey, your grandpa must be proud that you want hands like his: )

Nice video.
You should consider using a billhook to trim the smaller branches. :)
Would be awesome to know more about your plans, what kind of log house/cottage will it be? Maybe a video showing these plans etc.

Plot twist. This is a horror series about a man cutting down innocent trees and skinning them alive in front of their friends. The friends are hopelessly watching in terror as they do not know if they are next.

Tip for hand felling if you can use your saw to make the base cut the chop out the face with the ax then make back cut with saw. Ive tried it its not easy to get started but it works great!

Very good series, how long did you let the logs dry before you started the actual construction? Want to build one for my Dad and your method is inspiring?
