Mark, u have no idea, that is my favorite fruit. I'm fr Bangladesh (origin) & I thought it grows only in our country. We eat them also when it is little green (when it is still white inside, and sour. We mix Salt and hot green chilly & very little sugar. If you like spicy or hot, you will love it. I am so glad it is found in Sri Lanka & for that reason I may visit SL 1day. Thanks for sharing but pls do not forget to try our way, at least once. My sister was so jealous when he saw u'r video.

You guys are crazy about food. You must visit my country (origin) Bangladesh if not for any other reason, JUST FOR fruits and food. Lychee, Guava, Jackfruit, Mango, Pinapple, this wood apple (we call Kodbel, Jaam, coconut, Plam many kind and flavored fruits. Please trust me you will not be disappointed. If you ever get to eat Goat/BeefChicken Birani (Bangladeshi way, not Indian way-who mixes pudina/mint in Birani) you will feel like heaven. Our fish curry is also you got to try.

Kool vid, I ate this fruit a lot when I was in India, my motherland, i use to add a little sugar and mix it right in the shell and eat. here is one more interesting thing about this fruit. when an elephant swallows it, it comes out as is( u know from where. lol, but there wont be any fruit inside it, just the shell. i never checked personally but its a well known fact in India though. even the biologists endorsed it as a fact.

Hi Mark, this is what you call a wonder fruit It is believed to be good for your heart too. When I was a kid my mum and granma used to crack open the fruit and put the contents in to a bowl. Then add some water and mixing it with bare hands. Now you have the blender to do the job. Keep adding some coconut milk, brown sugar and salt to taste. The taste of the drink is heavenly good

wood apple juice is an extremely healthy drink. very cooling and good for digestion. Also good to eliminate intestinal worms in kids. we just squeeze the pulp in warm water just as you would do to get tamarind pulp add more water and palm sugar or jaggery to balance the sourness. some like to add a pinch of salt and pepper too to it. any which way its delicious.

By the way, we have two kind of this fruit. One we call Bel, and the other one, Kodbel. Kodbel is the kind I explained in my previous posting - which I believe - you are eating. The other one, is sweet type all alone, with sticky glue stuffs inside. We make them shorbot (sweet drinks, adding little salt and Sugar and water. They are never sour.

Hello Mark Thank you for the video. That's one of my favourite fruit since childhood, but it's very hard to find in markets nowadays especually when you live in Bangkok, Thailand. I almost have to get away from the city to randomly find one in local markets LOL. Glad to know it's pretty common in Sri Lanka (I assume so, correct me if I'm wrong.

They are found all over in south Asia. Believe me they don't taste good. It's sweet but most of them rot inside the shell. The one he ate is already rotten from inside. It does indeed smell good but the taste is bland. I don't know how he can even eat it. South Asian consume it because it's said to be good for health. Nothing else.

I live in Hawaii and there is something that looks like this in my backyard. I stepped on it and it was like pudding inside and smelled really good but I was afraid to eat it, only it looks a little different. The outside is a little more purpleish and the inside is kinda purple brown. Is it a hawaiian wood apple?
