Brief History of CLUE: Featuring Justin McElroy & Russ Frushtick

FBTwitterReddit

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Justin McElroy and Russ Frushtick delve into the history and origins of Clue, the board game, TV show and awesome movie There was also a childrens book series! Each book had an evidence card in the back, a map of the mansion in the front, and a bunch of short humorous mysteries in the middle. It was one of those -turn to this page for the answer- sorts of books. They were actually pretty funny, often riffing on the absurdity of the premiss (for instance, why does Mr. Body keep inviting these obviously terrible people to his home)\r\n

oh hey don't forget, Clue Master Detective is a thing that exists and brings back a lot of the axed (heh) weapons and characters and rooms - it's like super scrabble, except clue: for when you want to make one game go an insufferably long time.

GJ Russ, shittin on someone for talking about the history of a board game, and then heading up a podcast with basically the same premise a year later. Is this the origin of Justin's passive aggressive hate for Russ? jk luv em all

HOLY BUTTONS, that's what Parcheesi is? Americans have just been talking about Ludo this whole time! Look at my brain, look at it getting one step bigger. It's one piece bigger now! It's got one more wiggle on it!

I love this new format based off of Justin's penchant for googling information during mbmbam and passing if off like he knew it already until they catch him laughing too hard at wikipedia.

It's still called Cluedo in Germany. Which I thought was a completely made-up nonsense word until a few years ago, thanks in part to the German pronunciation used.

Great to learn some new Clue facts, though I'm a little disappointed they didn't mention Electronic Talking Clue FX. That was my favorite version of the game.

I love that the movie was mentioned here bc no one I know has heard of it even though it was like a staple in my house (also the musical was GREAT)
reply

only thing missing was mention of the loosely based Clue episode of Psych.
Great overall. I'm glad Griffin from Wonderful! brought me here.

This video was made by an elite trio of polygon folk i love to see it. Also russ gasping when he was told he was the father was adorable lol

It's sad how much of this I already knew. Like not even for a good reason, I just know the history of Cluedo. Not other board games, just Cluedo.

my family had the VHS game from the 80s, and I would just watch it by myself all the time. I don't thing we ever even played it.

I don't at all get how the movie could've been poorly received. It's hilarious and one of my all time favorite films.

Some video game versions you forgot was the game on SNES/Genesis and another PC game -Clue: Murder at Boddy Mansion-

If you need more clue in your life, Psych did a fantastic parody of clue for its 100th episode in season 7

i LOVE the clue movie, it's one of my favorite things that i used to watch with my siblings when i was younger: D

I think you forgot to say they couldn't manufacture the game until 1949 because they didn't have the -do-

the whole time I-m fascinated learning about clue, next I-m screaming laughing at dubstep board-game tips

Hey guy I have to say as a Clue fanatic you guys out done yourself I really like this video. Good work. (y); )

The value movie was one of the best movies I-ve ever seen. I have no idea why it was critically panned.

Was Golden Girls Clue not released back then? I feel like Justin would have mentioned that for sure. .
