Interested in Monster Hunter but not sure where to start? We've got you covered for Monster Hunter World! Check out our full guide! I could not get into the monster hunter world. I never played any of Monster Hunter games before, I mean I tried and really disliked how limited all the weapons are in the meaning of movement and cancells. I dont like Souls like games because your attacks are too slow and most of the boss fight you just wait for their attack and you just do dodge then 2-3 attacks. REPEAT until boss is dead. I prefer more fluid gameplay, where I can cancell almost every action or even attacking while moving around.
What I disliked in monster hunter world: Lack of cancels, many attack are slow, you beat one monster even 20minutes, no indicators that say how many health the monster have left (I dont see any wounds, the only thing you can see is when monster is escaping and he is moving his legs like he is hurt, I dont like to use potions buffs before or while fights because if I kill the monster I dont feel like Ive done it myself (Ive managed to do it only because of those buffs, I would understand it if you had stomah bar, where any drinked or eated stuff load your stomah, at full stomah you cant eat or drink anything, that would give it some small tactics to drink proper potions. Monster poisoned me so I drink a potion to cure the poison and second after he poisoned me again, isnt it obvious that I should be immune to poison for atleast several seconds because of antipoison in my stomah/blood? . Some monster attacks have broken hitboxes (bigger area than their attack is, also disliked that some attacks that looks weaker than others do actually more damage than those that looks stronger, for example I known that the monster will start to fly upwards so in my mind was, so he will probably slap me with his wings or just the air will push me away and I will lose some small amount of health, meanwhile he pushed me away taking 90% of my health, while his tail attack that looks more dangerous was just taking around 10% of my health. So I said fu-- this game I quit, not fluid gameplay, I have no fun playing the game because of how much it limits my movement and Im just feeling angry about it all the time. And yeah before each mission you need to eat stuff, which for me is frustrating to do this everytime.
I really would like to play this game, because many weapons are cool and have cool attacks but Monster Hunter world have too many mechanics I dont like in games. So I guess the game is not for me.
Also heard from my friend that all the missions are just to beat the big one, you do not fight small groups just like in other games, which I would like to do, because beating only big ones it seems to be boring to me.\r\n

Remember when games didn't require you to read a manual before jumping in? Those were the days. Yes it looks great but unless you just want to go out, hunt a monster, harvest its parts then hunt the same monster over and over again in order to gain the right amount of material for a set of upgrades and then move onto the next monster to rinse and repeat and are not too concerned with the story which is basically another excuse to hunt monsters then this won't be for you.
Possibly one of the most convoluted and needlessly complex combat systems you could find. Also as this game really was designed for Coop play if you have no friends who also play you are going to find this to be a very tedious grind. If you are a Monster Hunter fan then you'll already be familiar with how this works. The annoyance is it will take you a lot longer than 2 hours to decide if you enjoy this as the first 2 hours will be spent in the City testing your weapons before you even go out to 'hunt' so you can't just buy to try it.

As someone who is a veteran of this game, watching this vid makes one realize just how much there is to this game. And honestly its not even half of what this game contains. For every part he talks about there is still more sub parts and actions to learn about them. And even though I've been playing monster hunter since previous versions, there are still parts of it I still don't fully understand. That's not to say this game isn't fun. It totally is. It just has a major learning curve.
MHW seems to do the best job of teaching newbies tho. For the people that say it does a bad job of teaching newcomers, its nowhere near as bad as the previous games. It's no wonder those games back then where played only by the really dedicated players. But in the end its totally worth it, hunting down that one hard monster or gathering enough resources to craft that armor or weapon after so much grinding is just so satisfying. And the battles, even though can be long and difficult are always fun to do.

Going into the game as a new MH player, i thought the game would be complex and confusing, from most reviews and comments i read about the game.
I honestly have to say this is one of the simplest game ive ever played. Monsters have unique and obvious punishable movesets, your weapons also have pretty obvious movesets. The gearing up is simple, fire resist against fire monsters and so on.
The less obvious stuff like eating buffs and crafting just straight up get instantly explained by the tutorial popups too. So if you're looking to try the game out, dont worry too much about the reviews, if you've played a few other games, this is gonna be easy to get into, but hard to master. Ive been playing for a few hours and i still havent mastered the charge attack timings to stun enemies consistently, nor how to properly chain a few combos, but the combat is really fun and rewarding either way.

I found this game a tedious, boring, insufferable grind, and this video did absolutely nothing to dispel my hate of this game. The cycle was so damn repetitive. It was a 1 level deeper than a button masher. The worst part was when the monster ran away, then I chased it, then I sharped my weapons, then repeat. There were cycles in cycles. It was a mess. Which is a shame considering how beautiful the world is, all the work put into the animation, and the length of the story. It's just such a complete waste of time, money, energy, and talent. I can't believe this was supposed to be the best entry into the series.

Hey, I'm considering buying Monster hunter but I'm worried that grinding for new gear is useless. What I mean by that is if my LVL 2 gear requires to hit the boss 70 times before it dies and now I get a new weapon and now I have to hit the boss 68 times before it dies. It seems like you don't -Feel- the power of your upgraded gear because you can never see how much HP the monster got taken away by each swing of your weapon. -
Thanks for in advance for anyone replying to this.

i finished lots of hardest games ever! and i used to do it! but this game is not complicated! its ridiculous. u cant even lock on a enemy to attack it! what a waste of time! idk MHW producers was high making this game or what! this is first game that i found waste of time. monsters doesnt have health bar! no lock on! no combat mechanics! no good combos and most important NO any in game tutorial for new players. they should learn making game from -FromSoftware- and Miazaky!

MHW is my first monster hunter game, I have now put 500 hours into the game. Replaying on the PC now, don't get discouraged, this game comes together very well. If you hit a hard monster and get frustrated, give it time and keep at it - once you learn to fight the beast, it will seem easy. MHW has the most natural difficulty curve I have played in any game.

Though I can understand why you did, I don't quite think that comparing Monster Hunter with Souls-likes is exactly the way too go - considering that the very first Monster Hunter came out on PS2 at least half a decade before Demon's Souls.
I actually remember that journalists compared it with the original Phantasy Star Online, back in the day.

I was really disappointed in this game, even tho I bought it for 15e. The textures are really strange sometimes, the gameplay is difficult to understand (to me at least, and I didn't enjoy the fight at all, as it was messy and THERE WAS NO FREAKING TUTORIAL! Huge disappointment.
reply

Thank you for this tutorial and the recommendations. I am new to MHW but I prefer long ranged attacks, and in particular bows because I often forget to look out for important details like health and stamina/magic reserves if I charge in head first with melee.

For the record, sword and shield is the only weapon class that doesn't force you to sheath your weapon to use an item. It's not a big deal, but it did save my booty early on in the game when I was still getting used to the game and needed immediate help.
reply

Yuh thank you now I know NOT to buy this game. I can tell this game will bring upon a lot of stress. You have to sharpen your blade on top of bringing special items for specific fights. and you can be dropped in 2-3 hits in some cases! No thanks-

Something i would really like to know is.
Do i need PlayStation plus to play the general game?
And is it possible to take on the larger monsters solo?
If so, i might hold off on PlayStation plus untill i decide to play co-op.

just bought this game and wow playing this on my PC the font size is way too small and there is too much things being thrown at me at once, I'm definitely not warming up this game compared to games like Final Fantasy.

I'm really trying to get into this game, havr played for 5 hrs. I still can't get pass the super clunky combat system, no precision at all. Tutorial also sucks, combo isn't clear enough.

Also READ EVERYTHING, Expore the land and take a view and notes, and make use of traps you can make but most importantly have fun and take to your pace and it will be SUPER FUN!

Just bought it yesterday, I've only ever played the switch timed one off demo (20 minute) sooooo I'm looking forward to this. It looks amazing, installing it now ----

whenever you feel bored of the grind, change your weapon type. the game will feel new again since you have to learn new mechanics.
