Back in 2001, my parents bought me a Sony Viao desktop PC from Best Buy as a graduation present to take to college. If I recall correctly, it was the next level down from the top of the line model that Best Buy was selling at the time. I wanna say it was well over 2k. Anyways compared to my roommates Compaq it was an absolute beast that was wholly let down by the absolute dumpster fire that was Windows ME. My god that OS was trash! Absolutely could not do more then one thing at a time or it would freeze. The best improvement I ever made was I had my friend downgrade it to windows XP. After that it was an awesome machine. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Clint! Love your videos!

Well the rubber feet on these really likes to melt, as it happened on my PCG-XG28,
one of the successors of this. Its even cooler than this laptop! While this has a kickstand, the XG28 has a SELF LEVITATING kickstand for improved cooling, as well as a plexiglass topped screen, a jog dial for quick application access, and a DVD-ROM drive as its Pentium III 650 and those can play DVDs with ease. And it also has a Vaio animation in addition to the vaio sound on POST
Serviceability was quite a bit more difficult. You need to tear open the kickstand (13 screws) to access the hard drive, and ram slots are hidden under the keyboard!

PCX Town was a store of personal computers and electronic parts in Osaka, Japan, although it has already gone bankrupt.
The computer in this video may have been sold by me, at the time I was an employee there and also sold this model well, SONY VAIO was a relatively high-end brand and was bought by a rich man. I think, at that time, relatively reasonable American models had already arrived, so we were buying such models, because it was a cheap monthly salary.
I made a comment because the name of a nostalgic store came out.

I remember those, or something like that, 3D web browsing thingies from the late 90s early 00s. Not much, just that it was super cool and super slow. Not just because of the 3D element, but because it's much easier to guide yourself with 2D than 3D in selecting information etc.
I'm surprised I completely forgot about it till I saw this clip. 90s, it was a crazy time.
Hey, if it runs POD, it's good enough to keep.
My favorite racing game.
Thanks for the video.

In case anyone didn't know about the beauty of the VAIO logo (it's one of the best hidden meaning tech logos. If I remember correctly the philosophy behind the VAIO line was Sony passing from analog into digital (that is why there is a lot of media stuff on the PC. The VA is a sine wave (analog, the IO is binary (1/0, digital.
Cool video, I love old Sony stuff.

Scaling 320x200 -> 800x600 is a 2. 5x3. 0: 1 scale factor, so you get consistent triple-size vertical pixels and your horizontal ones aren't too bad either (alternating between 2 and 3 on every other column. Scaling 640x480 -> 800x600 is 1. 25: 1, so it'll always look pretty crappy, with every fourth column doubled in size.

9: 28 The connector for the external Floppy drive looks so much like the original PlayStation memory card and the controller connector - the rounded edges and wavy bits that act as a bit of a grip especially. Sony just had this distinct design language and it's neat to see it extend to their other products as well.

Believe it or not, but there are still a lot of thick books being sold in Japanese bookstore which simply talk about how to navigate and operate a specific computer program. From MS Office to Windows 11. So the amount of documentation on that is nothing but a normal thing.

In high school my friend, an exchange student from South Korea had a laptop from this line. Somehow the HDD had been wiped, and iirc the bios had no boot from CD option and he had lost his external floppy drive so it ended up just being a paperweight: (
