From Eric Chahi and Ubisoft comes From Dust, a puzzle/sandbox/god game where you save little dudes from certain lava GoodBinary: the controls on PC aren't bad. you have to use the AWSD keys, that coupled with the mouse, is the method. (i imagine this is close to the console controls)
and as for the story pickups that you said have no story; they do it's in the main menu as you unlock them.
when i was very young i played Out of This World (now we call it Another World); and i have to say that game played a part in me being inspired to make art.
(that and the Hobbit cartoon, among a lot of other stuff of course)

to be honest i expected much more from this game. much more from Eric Chahi!
and another disapointment is, that this game can't be bought on a disc, it's only for download. but well, yes, that's because it's only a puzzle game. not much. story mode. there is no real story!
i still prefer his older games, like another world and heart of darkness, which is by the way one of my favourite games.
btw, i would be proud to see an older game's review again: ) you do good reviews!

-TehGamersGarage Dots per inch (DPI) is how your mouse movement rate is measured.
As for gaming equipment I can throw a few popular companies around like:
Razer
Steel Series
Cooler Master
Cyborg
All to name a few to start, ( tip: higher price doesn't make the product better necessarily in quality or other) It took me 8 months of digging till I bought Razers Naga Molten Edition.

I really enjoyed From Dust. The water, lava and dirt physics are the best i've ever seen and depending on how you manipulate them it actually effects the game, nothing is scripted.
It would have been nice to have some city building elements and to be able to interact with your subjects like in the Black and white games but overall it's a great game.

-raJlabaJloM man, you're right. but in this case, this porting really left me disappointed.
they always make a lot of promises. -oh, we'll fix that foolish drm and optimization problem. don't worry. - or something like this. and what i got is this thing?
steam itself refunds a lot of angry people out there. and i'm included in that list!

I was going to buy the game. I tried the xbox demo and loved it, when when I -tried- it, I discovered it was a horrid port with no graphical options.
So I didn't buy it. Why do all the good games I like have to suck so bad? :(
Makes me shiver when I think SimCity5 is finally made. Llama help us all.

I love Eric Chahi. I've always wondered why he sort of stopped after Heart of Darkness, because both of those games are epic and awesome and tons of other positive adjectives.
Anyway, since this is Ubisoft, it will probably be on sale in about three weeks anyway. I'll probably buy it then.

You showed populous at the start but when I played this back when it was first released on the xbox 360 during the 'summer of arcade' set they did, and was disappointed as the lack of control you really have in From Dust, it just didn't scratch that god game itch for me.

I just realised something. How could you not include Black and White on your top 17 of the last decade?
Suppose you wernt a big of a fan as me: )
Would be interesting to know what your views on the game and it's sequel are though? If you've played them both of course?

This game needs some sort of random map mode, where you can sandbox your way through the whole thing with all the powerups available. I played through it once when I got it, and then never touched it again. It was fun, but one I beat it, that was it.
