I enjoy the frequent sarcastic humor in these videos & I appreciate that you refrained from indulging in it in the Camp Sumter video. Nothing humorous in the least about Andersonville. Everyone should visit this Georgia historic site. It’s also the National POW Museum with artifacts from all the nation’s conflicts. Walking the grounds of the Andersonville stockade is a haunting experience. I was nearly brought to tears by the pervasive sense of sadness that lingers there. The film Andersonville is requisite viewing to prepare one for experiencing the place. It has a huge cemetary adjacent to it containing the thousands of unfortunates who died so miserably there.

Sherman wasn't at Gettysburg. but yes, war is hell. There's honestly a lot wrong with this video. When the narrator starts talking about shooting rifles repeatedly, he mixes the word 'arm' with 'gun'. Yes, the soldier wrote that he shot one hundred and twenty times that day and his arm was sore. No, his arm wasn't so hot he had to exchange his arm with a comrade. His gun was. He said gun. While the word 'arm' can be used to describe a weapon (i. e. bare arms) it wasn't in this soldier's words. It wouldn't even be that hard to be accurate. there are so many resources someone could use to make an informative video about the civil war.

The stories were all of great interest as many things I learned I had not heard before! People I heard about who should have been caring and wise in their actions were anything but: Wirz and Sickles for example. Enjoyed the section on the food and drink available to soldiers. Were they able to supplement meager rations from suttlers Wonder what items suttlers carried and what they charged for them. So far my reading, studies and viewing has been battles, soldiers/officers and medical care (esp. Dr Jonathan Letterman) and of course Lincoln. All interesting. Thanks for program.

As much as I love your videos. Its getting incredibly hard to actually hear what your saying when the music is so loud over your voice. Alot of movies do this now with background noise where the action is ear splitting, but the voices and incredibly low. And its infuriating. I keep having to jump the audio up when you speak so I can hear what your saying; then suddenly the music filling the space between when your talking, Booms so loud you have to turn it down again. and moments later, back up to hear you. Please for the love of god please make the audio EVEN!

Interestingly there were very few cases of typhus recorded in Union records. Typhus comes from infected lice-this shows most soldiers carried a sliver of soap and tried their best to keep clean, especially in warm weather where a dip in the nearest creek was common. While bathing they'd often build a fire and hang their clothes near it letting the smoke fumigate and also noted it was like popping corn except it was lice exploding from the heat.

Booze was used on patients undergoing surgery. However both Chloroform and Ether were available and used on most patients. Problem The person giving these was probably not well trained and undermedicated the patient. Let’s face it this was a soldier doing this job, not an anesthesiologist, As a nurse I have studied this subject and I have worked in the O. R!

Wow, this video really brings the Civil War to life! The gritty details about the soldiers’ brutal conditions, from disease to makeshift meals like peanut chocolate, are mind-blowing. Those personal stories, like John Burns fighting at 69, hit hard. Great job diving into the raw reality of the eramore please!

There's nothing civil about war. War is the abandonment of civility. We just tend to romanticize the past. As a vet I understand all too well. Look at how we romanticize the Greeks, some of the most bloodthirsty people known to history. We modeled our society on them. And look where we are.

There are some glaring omissions and incorrect information here. One thing that needs pointed out is that there were many Union POW camps that had conditions at least as bad as those at Andersonville, and there was a great deal of permitted, even encouraged, cruelty to the prisoners.

Sweet potato has a similar taste when sweetened to Pumpkin that's sweetened. For instance sweet potatoes pie can be almost indistinguishable from pumpkin unless you clue in on the slight difference in consistency.
So the civil war almost invented pumpkin spice coffee.

History is proof that self-righteous pagans who proclaimed themselves to be civilized good christians just before they pillaged and plundered everything they wanted in the world with violence and subjugation, were obviously lying, and the TRUTH is clearly not in them.

Great video! Re: boiling meat for broth. Completely valid as a treatment for any condition involving a sore throat.
Next time you have a sore throat, boil up a chicken or beef bullion cube and drink it like tea. It'll lessen the acute pain for a bit.

War is a racket. Ethno-states such as the confederacy tried to be have no right to exist as such.
Too bad northern institutions' complicity in slavery isnt better known.
