Let's look back at 1981 - In this video Weird History is going to talk about the news, culture, sports, and entertainment, and all that was weird in the year 1981. 1981 would be a year filled with deadly events, including attempts on Ronald Reagan as well as Pope John Paul II, we would also see high-profile marriages, Lady Di and Prince Charles as well as General Hospital's Luke and Laura and the emergence of the video game with the debut of Donkey Kong

Me and my parents made the permanent move to Miami Beach from Argentina in Jan 1981. how quickly life flies! I can recall Lennon's last hit songs from Double Fantasy, Sinatra's NY NY, Kenny Rogers & early Lionel Richie, Air Supply, the theme from Chariots of Fire and Bette Davis' Eyes of course, playing regularly from my parents' car radio. Not to mention the assassination attempt on Reagan footage and Adam Walsh's pic after he was killed in S Fla (which disturbed and scared me to no end as a child of his age) being shown on the news regularly, ATARI, Pac-Man/Donkey Kong and developing my addiction to that then new network MTV!

Forgot about the time FEAR (at the behest of John Belushi) appeared on Saturday Night Live and caused a riot and escalated it to the point where the NYPD got involved (with Ian McEye and another member of the slam dancers yelling F New York! and New York Sucks) as well as destroying Studio 8H at 30 Rock. NBC President Brandon Tarkikoff was a livid over what happened and made sure FEAR never came back to SNL again. Lee Ving said to the New York Post that We did $400, 000 in damages! and slammed the phone.

They touch on the beginning of the AIDS crisis. But they mistakenly call it AIDS. In fact, when it was first being noticed, it was called GIDS (gay immune deficiency syndrome) because it was first noticed in gay men. But that part of history is covered up.

The worst part of the 1980s: prime time soap operas were ruining family time television. Also. the sad truth about the Brady Law has been rendered null because the Left needs mentally disturbed people to have access to guns.

I have two best memories from 1981. One of them was that was the year I married my husband who became the man of my dreams. To my great heartache, I lost him in 2002 to cancer, after 21 wonderful years together.

Crazy how snl fired someone for dropping the f bomb but today they have guests on like the rock to joke about robot machines molesting children. And you tell me our country hasn't lost its way and morals.

Great Video but 5 seconds for Indy? Raiders changed the path of many 80s kids and literally influenced education, science, and popular literature. Other popular media, such as Smurfs, don't even come close

I remember 1994 my mom and grandparents saying let's go to mcdonalds. the McRib is BACK! LOL. I thought they tasted like those rib tv dinners with tiny ass onions all over it. They're nasty.

This is my Generation, yeah I'm getting old, lol. It was a special time tho. I'm of the last in the United States that grew up without the internet - it's crazy to think about.

Ronald Reagan was a huge piece of crap, and if you hold some sort of love in your heart for that guy you need your damn head examined. You'll never change my mind about that.

The hostages in Iran were rumored to already have been freed, but regan delayed it so the beginning of his presidency would look better. One of our worst presidents imo.

It was a fun year for me as a 16 year old. But lookin back - 1981-1982 were much more like the 70s than the rest of the 80s. It was a interesting year too.

You mean that bastion of truth and good health, the CDC, went back and changed medical records to fit the agenda? Seems they've always been shady.

Erm. the Smurfs first had their comic series in 1959.
They were created by Belgian artist Peyo. Exactly as it says in the clip you are showing?

I remember 1981. I was 4. But, still, I was there. Christopher Cross, George Benson, Blondie, and Men at Work were on the radio constantly.

I hope that despondent gentleman who Muhammad Ali comforted was doing well with his life, that was very kind of Ali to care about him.

I wish we had presidents today who would stand up to public sector unions (ie taxpayer extorted overpaid people) like Reagan did

Hey, I love your videos, but this kinda feels like 80S IN USA not just 80s, the majority of the stories are all about america
