All the effort and money that goes into the preparation of the cars is insane when the sport is so uncompetitive. There is never more than a few cars that can win a race, and some of the teams only score ahandful of points over the course of a season. Yet their gragaes are pristine and the cars are worth millions of dollars. F1 really is motorspot for people who don't like motorsport.

Absolutely they do. Mechanics have no time for prima donnas like Verstappen. Good drivers contribute to getting a cars setup right for the track they are racing on. They must adapt to the car. Bad drivers expect that the car will adapt to the drivers style. They will never win, becuse a car changes during the race as does the track.

Parc ferme/no touching rules transformed the sport. The less fkery you do on the cars, the less pulling it apart and rebuilding it right up until the lights go out, the less likely they are to go wrong. Having said that, this weekend will see a lot of failures as they cars are new. :D

to be clear smoking next to fuel is no problem you can even put the cigarette out in the gasoline and it wont burn and with the turbo giving forced induction the fuel with have a higher nock level then normal fuel so it will even be less of a problem

In stop-go penalties, can/do mechanics use fans to keep parts cool Especially the brakes, it seems like they smoke and even catch fire a lot of the time but I don't remember seeing if that's dealt with or not.
reply

Surprised about the tools being dropped and lost.
When nasa works on the shuttles every tool is teatherd to the mechanic at all times. They are all logged out and in as well. Surprised F1 doesn't teather

reply

As soon as I started working on cars regularly, I very quickly moved it a small bit driver like he showed. Nice little bit of validation there as I don't see a lot of other car guys do the same
reply

What is more impotant, the driver or the car
Well, you can't make a WDC contender out of Max Verstappen in a Aston Martin. But you can't use a Non Max Verstappen in a Red Bull either.

9: 03 we can change fluids. so if you're allowed to change fluids, couldn't you change fluids in the dampers to change the behavior without actually changing the damper settings physically

This is insane to listen to after Kimi's crash, they fixed the car in less than 3 hours, without the help of georges crew, and Kimi then secured P2! Crazy stuff!
reply

6: 45 they literally just did that with Antonelli's car lol. He crashed on Australia FP3 and still went to qualifying, they finished rebuilding the car mid session
reply

2: 17 If Mercedes, one of the best teams in the grid have such fails and still good, I can't imagine how do Ferrari achieve this level of This is gonna be our year

15: 29 - [stuff that makes it to road cars] Regenerative, energy recovery, hybrid Wait what) Are these mechanical systems, or are F1 cars using EV stuff
reply

It wasn't a tool, but I lost a nut and bolt down the inside of the tail of a C130 (at the top. My sergeant looked at me and was like I didn't see sh! Lol
reply

Do F1 feel guilty destroying the climate and burning such valuable resources to go brum brum very fast!
I think we know the answer
sociopaths

So now it's clear why George Russell lost his maiden win that day in Bahrain. thanks for clarifying!
Jokes aside, great and informative video.

reply

Can someone talk about the rolling jacks that lift the car up and allow you guys to push it into the starting position I can't find any info on these.
reply

Won't mean anything, but:
I imagine you could see the car as an extension of the driver.
Or the driver as another component in the car.

reply

Typical Mercedes team lies. A rubber hammer would alter the weight of the car & would breach FIA weight reg's. Bullsht where the truth would suffice.
