I nearly choked on my coffee when she referenced the Scandinavian countries for their happiness values. I guess the unhappy people have already taken themselves out of the equation, right? How else could you explain the extremely high suicide/happiness ratio.
Someone else that I trust a lot more than this artificial smiley person, had the idea that the constantly high scoring in happiness is probably due to social pressure as to not lose the happiness status. Meaning many people rate their happiness higher than they actually feel.

There are a lot of cute ideas, but way too many broad strokes to her claims. It is completely possible for the brain to scan for positive aspects at the same time as scanning for negative aspects - that-s a fundamental capacity for decision making. And our brain does differentiate between visualization and actual experience, and if it didn-t, we would all be self-hypnotized psychotics. Yes, there might a minimal level of dopamine released to remember a good experience, but it is likely way less than the physical experience itself.

I think the pie graph was meant to represent the amount of happiness we can control. But even then I would swap genetics and environment. You can alter your genetics with diet and exercise (and hormone therapy if you're into that, but your environment is much more capable of alteration. It starts first with your perspective on life to make these changes though so that's why that one is the largest.

So money is not happyiness but if I am broke hve past due bills, shut off notices, forclosure so I not be un happy? If i have money I have better / safier food not Mc Donalds or frozen dinners ect, can keep a dependable car, good out more often, can afford to help other friends and family and give your family a better place to live and thing they need like college education.

Gratitude is a great way to stay happy. If you travel the world and see just how difficult some people's lives are, or some people that have very short lives etc. These people could be you so very easily. It helped change my entire outlook on the world. The good times are now. Also some of the most miserable people I have met have been extremely wealthy.

I don't understand when people suggest journaling. When you are in a rut or struggling in life there is nothing meaningful happening everyday of life. Journal about despair then? which does not make sense as I don't want to write something that I feel every second of my present life.

Well I asked my self who has most strefull life style. I found out its soldiers and next step was find out how they deal with stress which in a nutshell is the darker the situation the darker humor or sarcasm is needed. Basicly if life brings only pain become a mazochist: D.

This explains why America is the way it is. We always portray happiness by things we want such as cars, houses, or even careers. Other countries especially the Scandinavian countries really just care about the basics and making sure everyone in those countries are taken care of.

For some reason, I find knowing an actual -UN Global Happiness Report- exists and is a thing is both funny and tragic. At least now we know where the money goes. I tapped out after hearing -some people- 30 times in the first -debunking-. Translation: -it depends-. Very helpful.
